About the Position ALS Coal Technology at Riverview currently has an opportunity available for a casual Coal Quality Tester.
At Coal Technology our focus is on the evaluation of metallurgical coal for steelmaking and thermal coals for power generation.
The site operates both Pilot and small-scale coke ovens, in addition to a Boiler Simulator Furnace that evaluates coal-fired combustion performance.
The Coal Quality Tester position is an entry-level, position with the prospect of a long-term role for the right person.
The position is part of the Carbonisation team which operates Mon-Fri between 6:00am and 2:00pm.

Position Synopsis Reporting to the Carbonisation Team Leader, the position requirements include but are not limited to:
- Ensure that all work is conducted in a safe & efficient manner and to agreed standard operating instructions.
- Handling large coal and coke samples and processing them according to current best methods.
- Loading and unloading coal & coke samples from various pilot & small-scale carbonisation ovens.
- A range of physical tests including sample preparation, sizing, crushing, dividing and sample storage.
- Transfer validated results into the reporting system.
- Ensure efficient, productive, accurate & timely completion of activities.
- Perform other duties around the site as required.
- Report safety incidents as per Company procedures.
Essential Skills, Experience & Knowledge No experience is necessary as full training will be provided to the successful candidate. However, to be considered for this position you will possess:
- A strong focus on safety, quality, and teamwork
- Numeracy and literacy skills
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines.
- Comfortable with manual handling duties, including repetitive lifting.
- Be comfortable in a dusty environment, including wearing respiratory protection, due to the working environment. All Personal Protective Equipment is provided.
- Be comfortable with hot work, including working around 1000°C ovens.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new systems.
