The Role
ALS is seeking a Chemist for our metallurgical services business in Perth WA. Successful applicants will become part of its busy metallurgy testing laboratories that strives to exceed customer expectations by delivering quality results on time, and by maintaining strong relationships with its clients. This position is in our dedicated Heavy Liquid Separation (HLS) laboratory team, where you’ll work under the guidance of a Senior Chemist. You’ll play a key role in coordinating testwork with the Area Supervisor and a team of skilled technicians, contributing to delivering high-quality results.
The role will be a permanent employment arrangement. Rostered hours are primarily day shift weekdays 7am-3pm. The laboratory is based in Balcatta, a northern suburb of Perth. These are not FIFO mine site positions.
The day to day
Applicant will be based in the Balcatta HLS laboratory, typical duties include:
- Develop and validate suitable analytical procedures and methodology for the analysis of minerals samples, process solutions and residues, and/or concentrates.
- Liaise with Group management, site metallurgists and external clients.
- Investigate and resolve data quality issues raised by clients and produce outcomes that satisfy the client’s expectations when required
- Follow applicable analytical methods and published procedures without unapproved deviation.
- High level of expertise with area-specific procedures
- Appropriate management of equipment / instrument maintenance and/or calibration to ensure such infrastructure remain fit for purpose.
The essentialsApplicants with previous experience in similar laboratory will be highly regarded, however, training will be provided for successful applicants with limited experience.
Suitable candidates for this role must have:
- Diploma or Degree in Chemistry/Metallurgy or related discipline will be advantageous.
- Previous laboratory experience desirable but not necessary as training will be provided.
- Strong attention to detail is a requirement.
- Good communication skills to liaise with professionals across the Metallurgy group.
- Familiarity with MS office suite and capable of keeping good records and legibly filling in data sheets
- Ensuring that all work is carried out in a safe and efficient manner and to an agreed standard of quality, following established operating principles and procedures.
- Optimising turnaround time for samples while ensuring the highest quality of results is achieved and maintained.
- Maintaining laboratory equipment and carrying out quality control checks.
- Ensuring a high standard of housekeeping and cleanliness of all equipment and work areas.
