The Position
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented microbiologist to join our dynamic environmental laboratory in Darwin. In this role, you’ll play a key part in maintaining high-quality analytical procedures, ensuring efficient workflows, and delivering reliable results within established standards. Your day-to-day will involve calibrating equipment, managing consumables, performing calculations, and collaborating with the team to identify and address anomalies. If you have a solid foundation in microbiology, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety and client service, we’d love to hear from you!
  
The day to day
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Ensuring analytical procedures and associated tasks are conducted in accordance with ALS Quality Work Instructions including QA/QC.
• Organising designated tasks to maximize daily efficiencies.
• Ensuring all tasks and analyses are performed within both the time set down by the Line Manager and the relevant analysis standard.
• Highlighting anomalies in results and sample type and sample behavior to the Line Manager.
• Performing housekeeping duties as required.
• Calibrating equipment as required by the Line Manager and/or the QC staff.
• Performing calculations as required when conducting analytical preparations.
• Controlling consumable stock required for the tasks performed.
• Assisting in other duties as required.

  
The Essentials
The ideal candidate would have the following attributes.

• One year’s relevant experience (a degree or diploma preferred).
• Good microbiological knowledge
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• High level attention to detail.
• Ability to work autonomously or in a team.
• Ability to plan and organise work.
• Judgement and problem solving skills.
• Client service focus.
• Positive attitude to safety requirements.
• Appropriate level of aptitude on the tests allocated
