About ALS Coal

ALS assesses and ranks coal product physical handling, blend propensity, and every element of performance and behavior to provide an accurate picture of product marketability and value-in-use.
  
The Position
We are looking to select a coal quality tester to join our team based at our Richlands site.  The successful applicant will be available Monday to Friday and will have the opportunity to apply and develop core disciplinary skills as a critical path to career development. 
In a coal quality testing role, day-to-day responsibilities focus on maintaining safety, precision, and compliance with both national and international standards. The role requires meticulous attention to detail, strict adherence to procedures, and teamwork in a high-performance environment. Physical fitness, reliability, and adaptability are essential, as the job involves repetitive manual handling tasks and continuous learning to ensure operational excellence. A valid driver’s license is also required.
  
The day to day

• Ensuring that all work is carried out in a safe and efficient manner and to agreed standard operating instructions.
• Ensuring that all work complies with national and international standards.
• Checking and validating all results to ensure that they are within repeatability tolerances.
• Transfer validated results into the reporting system.
• Maintain the laboratory and its equipment according to company standards.
• Operating a range of equipment such as analytical balances and furnaces to perform tests including sample ash, moisture and volatile matter.

  
The Essentials

• Ability to follow set procedures
• Have excellent attention to detail
• Ideally Certificate in Laboratory or Science degree 
• Be willing to work as part of a high-performance team with a focus on quality & safety
• Be reliable, physically fit, and prepared to carry out repetitive manual handling tasks
• Eagerness to learn and adapt to new systems A valid drivers’ license is required

Eligibility
