As a Water Quality Chemist, you will oversee the entire process of water sampling and analysis, from field collection to testing and reporting. Your role involves planning and scheduling sampling activities, maintaining and calibrating equipment, and ensuring high-quality standards are met. You will also handle data analysis using MS Excel, manage client reports, and address any technical concerns. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent customer service are crucial, along with a valid driver’s license and confidence working around water. The salary for this role is $80,000 - $85,000.
The day to day
- Sampling and collection of samples for analytical purposes in accordance with client requirements.
- On-site field analysis testing.
- Schedule, plan, and organise sampling and testing.
- Ensuring the appropriate sampling equipment and approved methodology is used to provide a quality service to the clients.
- Optimising turnaround times for samples whilst ensuring the highest quality of sampling protocol is achieved and maintained.
- Understanding methodology changes that affect the operations of sampling.
- Ensuring the sampling equipment and vehicle provided are kept correctly maintained as well as clean and tidy.
- Maintaining client relations.
- Maintaining an appearance both personally and reflected in equipment presentation, in accordance with the quality requirements of ALS.
- Prioritizing of samples upon arrival to the laboratory.
- Sorting of samples and delivery to labs.
- Results entry in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Sample bottle preparation.
- Maintain equipment used for conducting analyses, including cleaning and calibration.
- Assembling client analytical summary reports.
- Using MS Excel to review data, create charts and perform statistical functions with regards to sample results.
- Generating and evaluating comparison data for trends, biases, or problems.
- Management and resolution of client Incidents assigned.
- Coordinating and or investigating client technical concerns.
- Meeting with clients on Teams or in person as required to resolve incidents and/or maintain client relationship.
The Essentials - Degree qualification is essential
- Min 2-3 years' work experience as an Environmental Scientist
- Excellent level of customer service.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
- Demonstrated attention to detail.
- Work independently and as a team.
- Excellent quality service approach and attitude.
- Solves problems / Lateral thinker.
- Negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to spend extended periods driving.
- Confidence in working around water and ability to swim.
- Current manual driver’s license.
- Project management experience is desirable.
- Knowledge of the operation of water supplies and treatment plants is desirable.
