As an Instrument Chemist, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing analytical instruments used in chemical analysis for our organics team in our environmental laboratory. Your key duties will include calibrating and maintaining equipment, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. You will also perform complex analyses, interpret data, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support research and development projects. Strong problem-solving skills and a solid understanding of chemical instrumentation are essential for success in this role.
The day to day
- Analysing environmental samples using scientific instrumentation and chemistry analysis techniques.
- Ensuring all activities are conducted in accordance with the Quality Procedures Manual.
- Supervision and training of laboratory staff.
- Prioritising daily workloads.
- Operation and maintenance of instrumentation.
- Reporting of results in accordance with Quality Work Instructions.
- Ensuring compliance with the laboratory’s QC and HSE requirements.
- Preparing standards for sample analysis.
- Maintaining relevant documentation.
The Essentials: - Bachelor’s degree (Chemistry major preferred).
- At least 2 years’ experience in a commercial laboratory.
- Competent in Microsoft Office (Excel).
- A working knowledge of sample preparation techniques of Environmental samples.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
- A working knowledge of lab safety requirements.
- Demonstrated experience in a quality accredited environment.
- Ability to work under pressure in a team environment.
- A keen interest in organic analysis.
