UniLodge is looking for academically successful, senior UC Students (2nd year +) to support our first years living in halls as Academic Facilitators. In this role you will lead study groups/huddles of students in a first-year subject area and provide good academic role modelling. This is a great opportunity to gain experience while also studying at University.

Please note: A minimum of two hours per week will be assigned to the successful applicant during term time, working primarily in the evenings
Academic Facilitators will have a specific schedule for the Academic Year which could include no hours during University Term Breaks. Exact schedule to be discussed with shortlisted applicants during the recruitment process.
We are currently seeking up to Ten (10) Academic Facilitators (AFs) to join the team at our UniLodge locations at University Hall, Ilam Apartments, Kirkwood Avenue Hall, Tupuārangi and Tupuānuku.
We are looking for students in the key first year study areas. These include but are not limited to: Engineering, Science, Commerce (marketing, accounting, etc), Law and Academic Facilitators who specialise in essay writing subjects to work as peer writing support. We also welcome interest for those who wish to be a General Academic Facilitator for Māori and Pasifika first years and support a study huddle that isn’t subject based.

WHAT YOUR TIME WILL ENTAIL
Organise assigned subject study groups and prepare accordingly with the relevant materials.
- Attend preparatory sessions and role related meetings as required.
- Provide information and assistance to students in a professional manner.
- Refer students to appropriate university support services
- Maintain an appropriate level of academic achievement in their course of study.
- Keep the Senior Residential Life Manger informed of your work, issues, concerns, or absences in a timely manner.
- Declare any potential conflicts of interest including intimate personal relationships with students undertaking the paper you are an Academic Facilitator for.
- Other duties as determined by the Senior Residential Life Manger that are consistent with an Academic Facilitator role.
- Record and report on attendance of all tutorials to the Senior Residential Life Manager
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
Be a student at the University of Canterbury working towards or have a tertiary or postgraduate degree that is relevant to the area being taught.
- Maintain a high GPA to be a good academic role model
- An ability to respond to difficult or challenging situations in a calm and responsible manner while following all appropriate procedures.
- Have empathy with the diverse issues faced by university students and an appreciation of the needs of students in residential accommodation.
- Good writing skills and ability to motivate others
- High level of creativity and problem-solving ability
- Ability to interact with residents of many different cultures and backgrounds
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Ability to organise work to ensure deadlines are met. This includes balancing personal study and AF workloads to ensure ongoing academic success.
