Location: Alton, Hampshire – Hybrid Working Available
Salary: Up to £70,000 + Package
Hours: Full-time preferred, with flexible or reduced hours considered for the right candidate
A leading specialist in water and wastewater solutions is looking to appoint a Commercial Manager to support its growing UK operation, based in Alton, Hampshire.

The business is open to considering flexible working arrangements, including reduced hours, for the right person. This could make the opportunity particularly attractive to an experienced professional looking to continue working within the industry while seeking greater flexibility, as well as an ambitious commercial professional looking to progress into a senior role.
The Opportunity
This is a particularly flexible opportunity for a commercial professional looking to join a specialist business within the water and wastewater sector.
The business is open to considering both experienced Commercial Managers and individuals who have developed strong commercial, contractual or quantity surveying experience and are now ready to step into a Commercial Manager position.
For an experienced professional later in their career, the flexibility around working hours and the option of reduced hours could provide an opportunity to continue contributing their knowledge and industry experience without the commitment of a traditional full-time position.
For someone earlier in their management career, the role provides the opportunity to take on increased responsibility, develop their commercial leadership experience and progress within a growing UK operation.
The Role
The Commercial Manager will play an important role in supporting the commercial performance of the UK business, working closely with the wider project, technical, contracts and business development teams.
The role will cover a broad range of commercial activities across water and wastewater projects, from tender and proposal stage through to contract delivery and completion.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide commercial guidance, identify and manage commercial risks, support contract negotiations and ensure that projects are delivered in line with agreed commercial objectives.
The role will involve a mixture of office-based and hybrid working, together with occasional visits to client and project sites as required.
Key responsibilities will include:
• Providing commercial support and guidance across the UK project portfolio.
• Reviewing tender and contract documentation and identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
• Supporting the preparation, review and submission of commercial proposals and tenders.
• Reviewing contractual terms and providing commercial input during the tender and negotiation process.
• Supporting project teams with commercial and contractual matters throughout the project lifecycle.
• Monitoring project performance against contractual and commercial requirements.
• Managing variations, change control, claims and commercial negotiations where required.
• Supporting the preparation and review of project valuations, applications for payment and commercial reporting.
• Identifying potential commercial risks and ensuring appropriate mitigation strategies are considered.
• Working closely with project managers, engineers and business development colleagues to ensure commercial considerations are incorporated into project decisions.
• Supporting contract negotiations with clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
• Reviewing project costs, forecasts and financial performance.
• Providing commercial input into project handovers from business development through to delivery.
• Maintaining appropriate commercial records and documentation.
• Supporting the development and implementation of commercial processes and best practice within the UK business.
• Providing commercial advice and support to senior management as required.
About the Candidate
The role would suit an experienced commercial professional with a background in the water, wastewater, utilities, construction, engineering or M&E sectors.
The business is open to considering candidates at different stages of their career. This could include an established Commercial Manager looking for a new challenge, an experienced Quantity Surveyor or Commercial professional looking to step into a management position, or a senior industry professional looking for a role with greater flexibility.

• Previous experience in a commercial, contracts, quantity surveying or project commercial role.
• Experience working within the water, wastewater, utilities, engineering or construction sectors would be highly advantageous.
