We are currently seeking a Sample Preparation Supervisor to join our team at the Khoemacau site in Botswana.
 
About the Role
The Sample Preparation Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and supervising sample preparation activities to ensure efficient workflow, quality compliance, and adherence to turnaround time commitments. The role involves managing staff, maintaining operational standards, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory.
 
Key Responsibilities
Compliance & Safety

• Drive and maintain ALS Health and Safety Foundation Standards.
• Ensure adherence to ALS company policies, procedures, and core values.
• Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Quality Management System requirements.
• Ensure compliance with local legislative requirements.
• Support and prepare for internal and external audits.

Operational Management

• Plan and organize all weighing and sample preparation activities.
• Manage daily workloads to meet or exceed turnaround time targets.
• Maintain production logs and track sample movement using GEMS.
• Supervise and coordinate staff across shifts, including night shifts.
• Investigate QC issues and turnaround time delays and prepare reports.
• Maintain communication with the Laboratory Manager regarding operational performance.
• Assist with improving turnaround times and reporting estimates.

Administration & Equipment Management

• Maintain documentation for sample preparation, equipment maintenance, calibration, and training.
• Order consumables and sample preparation supplies.
• Ensure equipment availability and proper functioning.
• Maintain laboratory cleanliness according to housekeeping procedures.

Requirements
 
Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma or Degree in a relevant scientific field.
• 2-4 years laboratory experience, preferably in sample preparation.
• Strong understanding of mining sample preparation processes including:
• Jaw crushers
• Mills
• Dust extractors
• Scrubbers
• Experience with GEMS or similar laboratory information systems is advantageous.
• Proven team leadership or supervisory experience.
