About the Position
This position is based at the laboratory in North Okahandja, Namibia, and reports to the Laboratory Manager. ALS operates 24/7, and the employee must be able to work shifts and flexible hours. The responsibilities listed below are not exhaustive and are subject to change depending on business needs.

• Organize workload based on daily departmental statistics to ensure turnaround time demands are met
• Plan and coordinate all weighing activities within the section
• Oversee planning and execution of all laboratory activities
• Maintain and organize production logs and follow up on priority work orders
• Track sample movement in GEMS and respond promptly to client queries and technical issues that may impact laboratory activities
• Ensure documentation related to maintenance, calibration, and training is current and readily accessible
• Supervise staff on shifts as required, including night shifts
• Plan optimal staffing based on workload demands
• Perform and act on findings from pre-shift and post-shift checks
• Manage stock takes and ensure minimum stock levels are maintained in the lab
• Plan for spare parts and maintenance of sample preparation equipment (Jaw Crushers, Boyd Crusher, and LM2 Pulverisers); implement corrective and preventative actions
• Ensure forklift operators hold valid licenses
• Write reports and conduct QC and turnaround time investigations
• Recommend improvements to routine and non-routine procedures in conjunction with the Lab Manager; validate new methods
• Maintain communication with the Lab Manager on issues affecting staff, production, or section performance, and assist in resolving them
• Attend technical and weekly production meetings, contributing to laboratory goals
• Contribute to continuous improvement of turnaround time (TAT) and estimated time of arrival (ETA) for results
• Ensure timely planning and scheduling of lab equipment maintenance
• Order consumables and other supplies for sample preparation
• Perform backup managerial duties in the absence of the Lab Manager
• Provide technical support to staff to ensure optimal performance
• Perform any other reasonable duties as assigned by the Lab Manager

• Plan and implement work schedules to maintain TAT
• Review, update, and approve timesheets according to work schedules
• Ensure time and attendance compliance with ALS policies, including timely completion of timesheets and appropriate leave planning
• Apply the company disciplinary code within the lab when necessary
• Manage employee FTE ratings to ensure compliance
• Conduct performance management reviews for lab staff
• Assist with recruitment of direct reports and manage inter-departmental transfers and redeployments
• Train staff on departmental processes and SOPs

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
