The Laboratory Technician (Microbiology) will be based in ALS Analysis and Inspection (Durban) and will ensure analysis of accurate results.

To perform routine microbiological analysis on commodities and various sample matrices as required.
The incumbent is required to be familiar with general instrumental equipment and apparatus used for Microbiological Analysis.
To perform general and routine analyses by aseptic methods according to standard procedures for microbiological analyses.
To carry out calibration / verification checks on apparatus as required and the entry of these checks in logbooks, record forms etc.
To calculate results of analyses and report them on the certificate of analysis and raw data sheets.
To carry out any quality tasks or responsibilities as instructed by the Quality coordinator
To conduct root cause investigation and ensure effective corrective action for all non-conforming work
To ensure microbiological controls are completed and all results are recorded on relevant quality documents
To check reporting of results, information and transcription prior to finalising client reports
To ensure client turnaround time is met
To carry out any other task as instructed by Laboratory Supervisor or Site Manager
To ensure microbiological resources are available for commencement of work
To prepare media and reagents as required during testing
To efficiently inform management on any issues that may arise when using laboratory equipment
To ensure that the laboratory rules, safety regulations and documented procedures are followed at all times.
Must ensure that analyses are clear, well documented and reported in the appropriate format to the Laboratory Supervisor / Site Manager for checking prior to submission.
To carry out validation of test methods under the direction of the Site Manager.
To conduct training on in-service students as directed by the Site Manager/Supervisor.
To carry out the duties of Technical Signatory as per the requirements of ISO 17025 where applicable
Documented test methods / reference standards are followed during the testing.
Maintain the general cleanliness of the laboratory as per the organisation’s housekeeping schedule and relevant procedures.
Monitor the environment conditions regularly and record the same periodically during the testing activities that are carried out.
Optimum use of available resources.
Safe and proper handling of the samples / materials throughout the laboratory.
Safe disposal of all waste produced by the Company.
Requirements:
A Minimum of a Biotechnology / Microbiology/ Food Science Diploma or Degree from a recognised University or Institution
Minimum 1 year experience in a microbiological laboratory / environment.
Fluent in English (written and oral)
Ability to anticipate needs and must be responsive to enquiries.
