Main Purpose of the Job
The Regional Procurement, Supply Chain & Logistical Manager will oversee all related supply chain activities within the Sub-Sahara Africa region.  The role will be primarily responsible for coordinating with other regional leaders in the global supply chain functions and with business leaders within the region and laboratory level to assess, develop and implement best practices for Procurement and Logistical strategy, and eventually to establish centralized procurement and logistical support function for this region.
 
Scope of the Job
The Regional Procurement, Supply Chain & Logistics Manager will be based in ALS Chemex Head Office in Johannesburg, South Africa. Detail tasks and responsibilities as follows:

1. Main tasks and job responsibilities

 Procurement & Supply Chain responsibilities.

• Coordinate with existing laboratory managers, regional business leaders and global procurement and supply chain leadership to develop plan for procurement execution in the region building on existing capabilities to leverage spend volume regionally and with ALS’s other global locations.
• Develop and implement a plan for consolidation of requisitions for added items, sourcing plans, vendor agreements, as well as centralizing Procurement activities over time.
• Identify, develop, qualify, and improve relationships with existing and new vendors that can support product needs for the region with focus on increasing reliability and value, while reducing costs and risk
• Assess, develop, and implement inventory management plan for the region including improved use of SAP ERP system for standardizing catalog items and inventory management that will lead to improved forecasting and re-ordering of goods.
• Implement best practices for monitoring inventory of supplies, consumables, and spare parts within the region – working with operations sites who may be responsible for storage and distribution of those goods.
• Develop requirements and plan for proper import of goods into Africa to eliminate delays and risk during this process.
• Represent the procurement and supply chain function in meetings with other business areas and regional / global leadership.
• Set respective KPIs and ensure adherence, performance measurement and target achievement.
• Resolve claims and dispute events with vendors.
• The individual will also be responsible for staff in the procurement and logistical functions to support the region.

 
Logistical responsibilities.
 

• Oversee the planning, implementation, and optimization of logistics operations including transportation, warehousing, and distribution.
• Develop and implement logistics strategies to ensure efficient and cost-effective movement of goods within the region.
• Coordinate with suppliers, manufacturers, and customers to ensure timely delivery of products and materials.
• Monitor and manage logistics performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with local and international regulations related to transportation and logistics.
• Manage and control costs while maintaining high service levels.
• Develop and maintain relationships with logistics service providers to ensure reliable and efficient service.
• Implement and manage logistics technology solutions to improve visibility and efficiency in the supply chain.
• Conduct regular audits of logistics processes and systems to ensure compliance and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Provide leadership and guidance to logistics staff, including training and development to enhance their skills and performance.

Human Resource

• Review, develop and train staff on the performance management process.
• Review current job profiles to ensure alignment to business needs.

Qualifications

• 4-10+ years of Procurement and/or Laboratory or Business Management experience in progressively advancing roles.
• BA or BS degree in Supply Chain, Business, Technical / Engineering, or related field (preferred).
• Demonstrated record of ability to implement continuous improvement ideas that deliver cost savings, efficiency, and optimization of capabilities.
• SAP software experience preferred.
• Mine Site, Geochemistry, Laboratory, Testing and Certification work experience is preferred.
• African Experience in Procurement and Logistics is highly preferred.
• Excellent English communication, reporting writing and presentations skills. French will be an advantage.
• Advanced Computer Skills – Microsoft Word; Power Point; Excel Databases and MS Office
• Will be expected to travel as needed to regions
