Main Purpose of the Job
The position is based at the laboratory in Chingola, Zambia, and reports to the Lab Manager. ALS operates 24/7 and the Employee must be able to work shifts and flexi hours. The responsibilities of the Employee are not restricted to the list below and is subject to change depending on business needs.

Scope of the Job
To provide support in the processing of Samples

Duties: - Follow all HSE protocols, ensure proper housekeeping and handling of all chemicals and hazardous substances
- Completely familiarize with the GEMS functionality and reporting of analytical data and keep track of turnaround.
- such as balance verification, room temperature verification and record keeping in appropriate logbooks.
- Sound knowledge of the operation of both sequential and simultaneous XRF instruments
- Understand the instruments principles and troubleshooting, fault finding and problem solving.
- Able to plan and perform method development and validation of all new XRF methods in consultation with line management
- Provide technical support and training to other staff employed in the section from time to time
- Accurately organize and prioritize analysis of samples and workload through the system
- Supervise and train new laboratory operators
- Organise laboratory shift schedules depending on the workload requirements
- Recording of instrument performance, maintenance of lab equipment and problems encountered in maintenance logbook and in accordance of the ISO17025 requirements
- Ensure all data and rush orders are reviewed, run approved and released to client in timely manner
- Monitor QC charts to identify and solve basic QC problems
- Able to investigate QC incidents and clearing of Non Conformances
- Finalize and approve data with assistance, and initiate re-runs or reweighs
- Follow direction in analysing non routine methods by applying sound analytical logic
- Liaise with the Production Coordinator in regard to the XRF work scheduling on a daily basis
- Exercise flexibility with assisting in other lab departments with appropriate training provided
- Liaise with the instrument vendor / service engineers in regard to the appropriate planning of preventative maintenance as well as breakdown maintenance to ensure sufficient available equipment capacity and minimal interruption to the operation
- Fully understand and able to perform all instrumentation duties within the department

· Good understanding of the principles of instrumentation in XRF
· Good understanding of XRF instrumentation equipment
· Excellent numerical and analytical skills
· Ability to operate instrumentation for analysis on either AA or ICP or Spark OES and XRF
· Good MS Word and Excel skills
· Have in depth knowledge of classical wet chemistry or geochemical digestion methods
Qualifications · Minimum 2 - 3 years’ experience in analytical laboratory / XRF / instrumentation section
· Diploma in Laboratory Science or equivalent
· Fluent English (written and spoken)
