Senior-Associate – Fire Safety Engineer Building Services Engineering Sydney CBD / Hybrid | Excellent Salary Package + Super + Bonuses
We are a well-established, award-winning multidisciplinary Building Services Engineering consultancy in Sydney, delivering innovative and sustainable design solutions for some of the city’s most iconic and complex developments.
Due to continued growth and major project wins, we are seeking an experienced Senior-Associate Fire Safety Engineer to join our specialist Fire Engineering team.
This senior role offers the opportunity to provide technical leadership, mentor emerging talent, and shape fire safety strategies for high-profile commercial, residential, healthcare, education, and infrastructure projects across Greater Sydney and NSW.
About the Role
As a Senior-Associate, you will lead the development of fire safety engineering solutions, including performance-based designs that balance regulatory compliance with architectural vision and client objectives. You will play a pivotal role in project delivery from concept through to construction and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive fire safety strategies and performance solutions in accordance with the National Construction Code (NCC), Australian Standards, and Fire Engineering Guidelines
- Conduct fire risk assessments, fire and smoke modelling (using tools such as FDS, Pathfinder, PyroSim), evacuation analysis, and structural fire protection assessments
- Design and specify active and passive fire protection systems, including detection, suppression, smoke control, and compartmentation
- Provide expert fire engineering advice to architects, clients, certifiers, and authorities having jurisdiction (including FRNSW)
- Prepare detailed fire engineering reports, fire safety engineering reports (FSER), and supporting documentation for Development Applications and Construction Certificates
- Lead technical reviews, peer reviews, and value engineering exercises
- Mentor and develop junior and intermediate fire engineers within the team
- Collaborate closely with the broader MEP and hydraulic teams on integrated building services solutions
What You’ll Bring - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fire Safety Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
- 8+ years of relevant experience in fire safety engineering within the building services or consulting environment in Australia
- Proven track record delivering complex performance-based fire engineering solutions on large-scale projects
- Strong technical expertise in fire dynamics, modelling software, and Australian regulatory frameworks (NCC, AS 2118, AS 2419, AS 1670, AS 3000, etc.)
- Excellent report writing, presentation, and stakeholder management skills
- CPEng, NPER, or eligibility for Chartered status with Engineers Australia (highly regarded)
- Demonstrated leadership and ability to manage projects and teams effectively
- Current Australian working rights
