KALCON is seeking an experienced Substation Project Manager to lead the delivery of a high-profile data center substation project for our client, Integra. This role will be responsible for overseeing a single EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contractor delivering the full project scope. The Project Manager will provide leadership across design, preconstruction, and construction phases, ensuring the EPC contractor meets all project objectives related to schedule, budget, quality, and safety.
The first ~4 months of this role will be on a hybrid remote flex schedule, and then this individual will transition to full-time onsite in Quanah, TX.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
- 8-15+ years of experience managing substation, transmission, or power infrastructure projects
- Proven experience overseeing EPC contractors on large-scale projects
- Experience with data center or mission-critical infrastructure strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex schedules, budgets, and stakeholders
- Strong understanding of:
o Substation design and construction
o Utility coordination and interconnection processes
o EPC contract structures and risk allocation
Key Responsibilities:
Preconstruction & Design Phase (First 4 Months - Hybrid/Remote)
- Act as the Client's primary representative to the Data Center Developer and the EPC contractor
- Oversee EPC contractor during:
o Conceptual and detailed substation design
o Engineering reviews and approvals
o Permitting and utility coordination
- Lead design review meetings and ensure alignment with:
o Data center requirements
o Utility interconnection standards
o Regulatory and environmental constraints
- Validate project scope, schedule, and cost estimates
- Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies early in the project lifecycle
- Support contract finalization and execution with the EPC firm
Construction Phase (18 Months - Onsite)
- Serve as the onsite project lead representing the Client
- Manage and oversee EPC contractor performance across all construction activities
- Monitor and enforce adherence to:
o Project schedule and milestones
o Budget and cost controls
o Quality standards and specifications
o Safety requirements and compliance
- Lead weekly/monthly progress meetings with stakeholders
- Review and approve:
o Submittals and RFIs
o Change orders and claims
o Progress reports and invoices
- Coordinate with:
o Utility providers
o Local authorities and inspectors
o Data center development team
- Ensure timely commissioning, testing, and energization of the substation
- Drive issue resolution and maintain project momentum
