The Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator (ONRSR) is a national regulator responsible for overseeing rail safety across Australia. With a workforce of around 200 employees and an annual operating budget of $48 million, ONRSR plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and integrity of the national rail network. Operating within a highly regulated and governance-driven environment, ONRSR is focused on strengthening internal capability and leveraging data, technology, and insight to support its strategic priorities and future direction.

Reporting to the Director, Safety and Regulatory Insights, the Senior Manager, Data Management and Platform will build and lead ONRSR’s data engineering and platform capability. This role is responsible for designing and delivering scalable data pipelines, establishing robust data architecture and embedding governance and quality standards across the organisation. Leading a team of six, you will uplift capability, introduce modern engineering practices and remove reliance on manual processes and single points of failure. Working closely with Business Technology Services (BTS) and other senior leaders, you will play a pivotal role in delivering the regulatory intelligence strategy, balancing foundational build with business-as-usual delivery in an environment undergoing significant change.

You are a proven leader in data transformation with experience building modern data platforms, embedding governance and uplifting capability in complex environments. Combining technical expertise with a strategic mindset, you translate business priorities into scalable solutions, lead teams through change and influence stakeholders to deliver lasting impact. Experience in regulated or government environments is advantageous, but your ability to lead with clarity, drive culture and deliver measurable outcomes is what matters most.
