The Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator (ONRSR) is a national regulator responsible for overseeing rail safety across Australia. With a workforce of around 200 employees and an annual operating budget of $48 million, ONRSR plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and integrity of the national rail network. Operating within a highly regulated and governance-driven environment, ONRSR is focused on strengthening internal capability and leveraging data, technology and insight to support its strategic priorities and future direction.
Reporting to the Director, Safety and Regulatory Insights, the Senior Manager, Advanced Analytics and Insights will lead the development of ONRSR’s analytics and regulatory intelligence capability, translating data into clear, actionable insights that support operational and strategic decision-making. Leading a national team of 3 analysts, alongside a data scientist and business intelligence capability, you will drive a shift from descriptive reporting to insight-led decision support. This includes uplifting capability, embedding consistent processes and leveraging a new data platform to enable deeper analysis, trend identification and predictive thinking. You will work closely with operational leaders and stakeholders across the organisation to ensure analytics is integrated, relevant and impactful, while also navigating a team environment undergoing change and capability uplift.
You are a strategic and commercially minded analytics leader, with the ability to move beyond reporting and deliver meaningful insights that influence outcomes. You bring experience leading analytics transformation, building team capability and embedding modern practices in environments with evolving maturity. Technically, you are confident across tools such as Python, SQL and R and are comfortable engaging at both an executive and technical level. You are a strong communicator, able to translate complexity into clarity and have a proven ability to build trust, challenge thinking and position analytics as a valued business partner.
