About the Service
Homelessness Services Women & Families, diverse programs cater to various needs, including the Young Women’s and Adult Women’s accommodation programs. Additionally, the service provides targeted family support, early intervention through the Women's Early Intervention program, holistic support and housing support for women exiting remand, support for QLD Drug and Alcohol Court participants and comprehensive property and tenancy management for all temporary supported properties.
About the role
The overall purpose of the Practitioner – MHAOD (Mental Health, Alcohol & Other Drugs) is the provision of alcohol and drug interventions, mental health support, group activities and dual-diagnosis counselling. The role oversees the delivery of centre based, group, and mobile support services.
2 vacancies available for 12 Month Fixed-Term contracts, working 38 hours per week based at our Toowong service – this is an outreach position with access to program vehicle.
The successful applicants will join our dedicated team, led by a service manager, of approximately 28 staff including 3 coordinators. This skilled team is, complemented by administration staff and an intake team ensures the effective operation of our program and services.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct mental health and AOD assessments, care coordination, and counselling.
- Facilitate access to support services, referrals, and treatment.
- Provide crisis counselling, harm reduction education, and targeted interventions.
- Maintain accurate client records and fulfill data collection and reporting requirements.
- Promote and apply the service framework emphasizing social justice and client strengths.
- Support practice improvements and adopt efficient methodologies.
- Stay updated on evidence-based practices and conduct risk assessments.
- Build positive team relationships and actively participate in meetings.
- Provide peer support and contribute to process improvements.
- Engage in professional development and training.
Qualifications, Credentials and Other Requirements - A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Social Sciences or comparable qualification OR substantial demonstrated experience in a related field
- Current National Police Check
- Current Blue Card (Working with Children’s Check)
- Current Driver’s License
- Ability and willingness to travel within the service region.
- Ability and willingness to work outside of standard business hours and provide on-call support as required.
About You: - Solid grasp of mental health and AOD issues affecting vulnerable individuals, with knowledge of recovery-focused interventions.
- Experienced in planning, executing, and assessing programs with a focus on improvement.
- Strong communication skills and ability to build effective relationships.
- Capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
