About the Role
Reporting to the Mechanical Engineer Team Lead, an Engineering Intern provides support to ADT’s mechanical engineering team through participation in engineering processes, testing and documentation activities across active projects. The role is intended to support workforce development while contributing to project delivery under appropriate supervision.

The position offers structured exposure to ADT’s engineering environment, systems, tools and processes, aligned with professional engineering standards and defence industry requirements.

Key Responsibilities
The Engineering Intern is responsible for supporting engineering activities as directed, including:

• Support mechanical engineers with CAD/CAM design, technical drawings, assembly instructions, and product visualisations for precision components and assemblies.
• Undertake mechanical assembly of complex electronics subassemblies, mechanical test jigs and mechanical prototypes.
• Operate CNC machinery as well as manual equipment.
• Fabrication of metal parts and assemblies including (milling, cutting, welding etc).
• Fabrication composite of parts (pre-preg and resin infusion).
• Assembly of Printed Circuit Assemblies (PCAs), and other soldering tasks as directed.
• Quality checking/ control of complex assemblies, PCAs and mechanical.
• Design and manufacture military standard cable harness assemblies.
• Create, publish, and maintain assembly technical instruction/procedural documentation.
• Adhering to ADT’s quality management, safety, security and confidentiality requirements.

About You
To be successful in this role, the candidate will ideally have a combination of the following:

• Enrolled in and completing an accredited bachelor's degree in engineering.
• Associate Diploma, Certificate or equivalent in mechanical fabrication.
• General IT\Electronic technical skills.
• General hands-on mechanical skills.
• Understanding of metal working fundamentals.
• An understanding of IPC standard soldering guidelines.
• Knowledge of military standards and work practices.
• Ability to work autonomously, with a high level of initiative.
• Ability to work under minimal supervision.
• Experience in the creation of technical documentation and reports.
• Fault finding and troubleshooting skills.
