The role:
We are currently seeking a Counselling Practitioner - Family and Relationship Services (FaRS) to join our team based in our Southport office on the Gold Coast in a permanent full-time capacity. In this role, you will provide counselling to children, couples, adults, and families, assisting them in managing challenges and improving relationships. You will also facilitate group education sessions for a diverse range of clients, focusing on brief solution-focused therapy, grief and loss, and relationship counselling.
Key Duties:
- Complete client intake, including initial and ongoing risk assessments, safety planning, and crisis counselling as required.
- Provide brief solution-focused counselling sessions for children, couples, adults, and families.
- Facilitate psycho-educational or therapeutic group sessions.
- Manage client referrals and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve positive client outcomes.
- Complete client intake, including initial and ongoing risk assessments, safety planning, and crisis counselling as required.to achieve positive client outcomes.
Skills and Experience: - Strong understanding of the Domestic and Family Violence Act, Child Protection Act, and Family Law Act, as well as their impact on families.
- Proven experience in intake, risk assessment, case management, crisis intervention, and safety planning.
- Well-developed writing skills, including report writing, case notes, data collection, and data entry.
- Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to advocate for clients' needs with statutory organisations/departments.
- Professionalism and integrity in working with clients, colleagues, and community stakeholders.
- Ability to support and work with diverse families facing complex needs.
- Availability for some after-hours work.
- Experience in Brief Solution Focused counselling for a variety of clients.
- Knowledge and experience in delivering group psycho-educational programs.
- Experience in counselling children, couples, adults, and families, including those from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Essential requirements for the role: - Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social or Behavioral Sciences from a recognized tertiary institution;. Eligibility for membership of APS, AASW, or similar recognized professional association.
- Knowledge, skills and experience in the principles and practices of contemporary theories and a working knowledge of psychotherapeutic counselling techniques, brief solution focused intervention, trauma informed practice, family systems theory, group theories and dynamics
- Have a current Blue Card – or be eligible to apply;
- Have a current QLD P2 or above Driver’s Licence;
- Evidence of Australian Work Rights to confirm citizenship or a visa holder;
- Current (no less than 3 months) Australian Federal Police Criminal History Check; and a signed statutory declaration stating you have no criminal offences (Australia and overseas).
