About the Role
We are seeking a passionate Cultural Advisor to play a pivotal role in embedding cultural safety and inclusion across our organisation. Reporting to the Assistant Director – People and Organisational Capability, you will champion JEDI initiatives, with a strong focus on supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, while fostering inclusivity for all cultural groups.

This is an Identified Position under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), requiring an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person to ensure cultural knowledge is embedded in the role.

Key Responsibilities

• Cultural Competency, Education, and Advocacy:
• Deliver training and workshops to build cultural competence and understanding.
• Develop educational resources to promote JEDI principles.
• Provide guidance to ensure organisational practices are culturally safe and inclusive.
• Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Building:
• Collaborate with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, Elders, and cultural leaders.
• Work with leadership to incorporate diverse perspectives in decision-making.
• Policy Development and Program Monitoring:
• Support the design and implementation of inclusive policies and programs.
• Monitor and report on diversity and inclusion progress, recommending improvements.
• Recruitment, Retention, and Organisational Culture:
• Collaborate on strategies to attract and retain diverse talent.
• Foster an organisational culture of understanding, respect, and collaboration.

About You
To excel in this role, you will have:

• Experience supporting Reconciliation Action Plans or cultural initiatives.
• Strong relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and culturally diverse groups.
• Proven ability to deliver cultural awareness training and foster cross-cultural understanding.
• Knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices, with a focus on cultural safety.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to influence and engage at all levels.
• A passion for promoting cultural equity and inclusion.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Relevant experience or qualifications in Indigenous Studies, Cultural Studies, Social Sciences, Human Resources, or related fields.
• Familiarity with relevant legislation, including anti-discrimination and workplace equity.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a driver’s license, Blue Card, criminal history check, and evidence of the right to work in Australia.
