The Safety, Risk and Governance team provides strategic leadership and expert advice across governance, risk management, insurance, compliance and assurance. Working collaboratively with stakeholders across the Archdiocese, the team helps protect our people, assets and mission while supporting informed decision-making and strong organisational governance.
About the Role
The Senior Risk & Compliance Advisor plays a key role in strengthening governance, risk and compliance across Archdiocesan Services.
Reporting to the Director – Risk, Assurance & Insurance, the role provides trusted second-line advice and oversight while supporting the ongoing development of enterprise risk and compliance frameworks. Working closely with stakeholders across the organisation, the Senior Risk & Compliance Advisor facilitates risk assessments, provides governance and compliance guidance, coordinates key compliance activities, and supports informed decision-making.
This role contributes to building organisational capability, embedding a strong risk culture, and driving practical improvements that enhance resilience, accountability and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the ongoing development and continuous improvement of the organisation's Risk and Compliance Frameworks.
- Lead enterprise and operational risk assessments, workshops and governance reviews.
- Provide expert advice on risk, governance and compliance obligations, ensuring alignment with legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare high-quality reports, dashboards and insights for executives and governance committees to support informed decision-making.
- Oversee governance processes, including policy management, GRC systems and organisational risk and compliance reporting.
- Monitor significant risk, compliance and governance matters, including incidents, complaints, breaches and whistle-blower disclosures.
- Act as the Modern Slavery Liaison Officer and coordinate the organisation's annual Modern Slavery Statement.
- Build strong relationships across the organisation to promote a proactive risk and compliance culture.
About You To be successful in this role, you will be a collaborative and solutions-focused risk and compliance professional with the ability to build trusted relationships and provide practical, commercially sound advice.
You will bring: - Tertiary qualifications in Risk Management, Governance, Business, Commerce, Accounting or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in governance, risk, compliance, audit or assurance.
- Experience maintaining enterprise risk and compliance frameworks and facilitating risk assessments.
- Strong knowledge of governance, risk and compliance principles and relevant legislation.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and report writing skills.
- Experience with Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) systems and Microsoft Office.
- High levels of integrity, sound judgement and attention to detail.
Experience in a not-for-profit or other values-based organisation will be well regarded.
