The Romero Centre is part of Archdiocesan Ministries Brisbane, within the Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane. Archdiocesan Ministries delivers a range of services and ministries that strengthen communities and support people experiencing vulnerability across Queensland.
About the Role
This is more than a support worker role, it's an opportunity to make a genuine difference.
Working alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team, you'll provide practical, trauma-informed support to people seeking asylum and refugees through participant engagement, housing assistance, service coordination and community-based support. This role is ideal for someone looking to build their career while making a meaningful impact in the lives of vulnerable individuals and families.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide respectful, trauma-informed and culturally safe support to people seeking asylum and refugees.
- Assist participants with housing support, emergency relief, referrals and service navigation.
- Support participant engagement, appointments and community-based assistance.
- Assist with housing setup, accommodation support and property-related follow-up.
- Build positive relationships with participants while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Maintain accurate case notes, participant records and documentation.
- Liaise with community organisations and external service providers.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision and professional development.
- Identify and escalate participant risks and safeguarding concerns.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and operational support across the Romero Centre.
About You You'll bring:
- Qualifications (completed or nearing completion) in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Community Services or a related discipline.
- A passion for supporting refugees, people seeking asylum and vulnerable communities.
- An understanding of trauma-informed and culturally safe practice.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- The ability to work collaboratively and build trusted relationships.
- A current Driver Licence.
- A Blue Card and National Criminal History Check (or willingness to obtain).
