About the Role
The Senior Safeguarding Advisor supports the Director of Safeguarding in delivering the operational and strategic functions of the Office for Safeguarding Services. The role provides specialist safeguarding advice, guidance and support to prevent abuse and harm, meet safeguarding obligations, and maintain a culture of safeguarding.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a key point of contact for safeguarding concerns, allegations, incidents and enquiries, ensuring matters are managed appropriately and in accordance with legislative, policy and procedural requirements.
- Provide authoritative advice on safeguarding legislation, policies, standards and best practice.
- Provide advice and practical support to identify, assess and manage safeguarding risks.
- Coordinate the management of persons of concern, including safeguarding risk management arrangements.
- Coordinate safeguarding assurance activities, including audits and assessments, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Support parishes, communities and ministries to develop and implement safeguarding action plans.
- Build effective relationships with clergy, staff, Local Safeguarding Representatives, statutory authorities and key stakeholders.
- Contribute to safeguarding education, training and capacity-building initiatives.
- Contribute to the development and review of safeguarding policies, procedures and resources.
- Guide and support the Associate Safeguarding Advisor to promote high performance and consistent service delivery.
- Maintain accurate, timely and confidential safeguarding records and case management documentation.
- Represent the Office for Safeguarding Services on internal and external forums as required.
- Undertake other duties consistent with the responsibilities of the position as directed by the Director of Safeguarding.
About You You will bring:
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, the Queensland Child Safe Standards and National Catholic Safeguarding Standards (preferred)
- Experience in safeguarding, compliance, investigations, legal or regulatory environments
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills
- Experience managing complex and sensitive matters with sound judgement and discretion
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Experience developing policies, reports, training or safeguarding resources
- Emotional resilience, empathy and professional integrity
- A commitment to working within a faith-based environment
Qualifications & Requirements - Qualifications in safeguarding, child protection, criminology, law or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (desirable)
- Experience in auditing, quality assurance or risk management (desirable)
- Current Queensland working with Children Blue Card (or ability to obtain)
- Preparedness to undergo a National Criminal History Check
- Current Open Driver Licence
- Willingness and ability to travel within Southeast Queensland and work occasional evenings or weekends as required
