With a workforce of more than 3,000 as well as volunteers, Centacare responds to local needs from over 200 service sites, touching the lives of more than 100,000 people each year across Disability & Mental Health, Aged & home Care and Specialist Family Support Services.
The Role:
Job Share – 3 Days/Week (21.5 hours) | Maryborough & Hervey Bay
We are seeking a Practitioner to support children, young people, families, and carers through counselling, evidence-based interventions, and group activities. The role includes record-keeping, program support, community engagement, and reporting. Applicants should have a tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, or Social/Behavioral Sciences (or equivalent experience), knowledge of out-of-home care, and experience supporting diverse client needs, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. Strong communication, teamwork, and professionalism are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide non-clinical support, basic interventions, counselling, and crisis assistance to children, young people, families, and carers.
- Plan, develop, and participate in programs, group activities, case coordination, and family conferences.
- Maintain accurate client records, data, and reports; ensure compliance with legal, financial, WHS, and HR requirements.
- Identify and report service delivery risks, trends, and improvement opportunities.
- Develop and maintain community and Indigenous partnerships.
- Contribute to professional development, training, supervision, and program evaluation.
Skills & Experience: - Knowledge of Domestic and Family Violence, Child Protection, and Family Law Acts, with experience in crisis counselling, risk assessment, safety planning, and court contexts.
- Experience delivering education and training to diverse stakeholders and age groups.
- Competence in brief, solution-focused counselling and psycho-educational or therapeutic groups.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and report writing skills; computer literate.
Qualifications & Requirements: - Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, or Social/Behavioral Sciences (or substantial relevant experience); eligibility for APS, AASW, or similar.
- Experience supporting children, young people, and carers, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.
- Ability to identify client risks and refer appropriately.
- Commitment to Catholic Church ethos and Catholic Social Teaching.
- Current driver’s licence, Qld Working with Children Check, proof of Australian work rights, and AFP Criminal History Check.
