The Position
We're seeking an experienced and proactive HSE Manager with a strong background in renewable energy, infrastructure, mining, or major construction projects.
By joining our team, you'll play a critical role in supporting the delivery of major renewable energy projects across regional Western Australia, including solar farms, battery energy storage systems (BESS), transmission infrastructure, substations, and associated civil and electrical works.
Reporting to the Project Manager, you will provide expert health, safety, and environmental leadership across all project phases, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, client expectations, and company standards while fostering a positive safety culture throughout the workforce.
Key Responsibilities
As the HSE Manager, you will be responsible for driving site safety performance, environmental compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives, including:
- Providing visible and proactive HSE leadership across project construction activities.
- Developing, implementing, and maintaining project-specific HSE Management Plans, procedures, and systems.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant WHS legislation, environmental regulations, client standards, and contractual requirements.
- Leading risk management processes, including hazard identification, risk assessments, JHAs, SWMS reviews, and critical control verification.
- Managing project onboarding processes, inductions, competency verification, and HSE documentation.
- Conducting site inspections, audits, workplace monitoring, and compliance assessments.
- Leading incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and lessons learned processes.
- Monitoring and reporting HSE performance metrics, trends, and improvement opportunities.
- Facilitating toolbox talks, safety communications, workshops, and workforce engagement initiatives.
- Providing guidance and coaching to project managers, supervisors, subcontractors, and site personnel on HSE requirements and best practices.
About You You are an experienced HSE professional who thrives in a dynamic construction environment and is passionate about creating safe, compliant, and high-performing workplaces.
Selection Criteria - Minimum 5 years' HSE leadership experience within renewables, mining, utilities, transmission, infrastructure, or major construction projects.
- Demonstrated experience working on large-scale renewable energy projects such as solar farms, wind farms, BESS, substations, or transmission infrastructure.
- Proven experience implementing and managing HSE management systems within a construction environment.
- Strong understanding of ICAM, TapRooT, or equivalent incident investigation methodologies.
- Experience managing subcontractor compliance and contractor HSE performance.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence positive safety behaviours at all organisational levels.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring capability.
- Excellent organisational, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
- Current Driver's Licence.
- Ability and willingness to work on project sites in regional Western Australia.
