About Us
RSGx is a leading provider of integrated mechanical and electrical (M&E) construction, engineering, commissioning, and maintenance services across Australia, focused on enabling the energy transition.
Our capabilities span transmission & distribution, substations, powerlines, switchgear, commissioning, and more.
We deliver across industries including mining, renewables, utilities, transport infrastructure, oil & gas, defence, and water.
Role Overview
We're seeking Electrical Engineers with 3-7 years of professional experience to join our Project Engineering team.
You will contribute to project engineering on a variety of RSGx projects, support tendering across multiple industries, and assist with technical delivery for high-voltage (HV) and substation works.
While primarily based in the office, the role may involve site visits or possibly longer-term site assignments.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning, design, and engineering of electrical infrastructure projects, particularly high-voltage substations and transmission/distribution systems.
- Support the tender process: prepare engineering scopes, cost estimates, design support, and technical proposal content for M&E tenders.
- Develop and review electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, and design documentation in coordination with senior engineers.
- Conduct HV engineering studies, such as earthing design, protection coordination, load flow, short-circuit analysis, insulation coordination.
- Support commissioning activities: develop Test Procedures (e.g., Commissioning Test Procedures, Functional Test Procedures), Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and work packs. RSGx has experience in commissioning up to 500 MVA transformers, HV switchgear, SCADA/telemetry systems, protection schemes, earthing systems
- Assist in site acceptance testing (SAT), site commissioning, and energisation activities, working safely and in accordance with project permit-to-work systems.
- Provide technical support during construction: liaise with construction teams, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to resolve design or installation issues.
- Support preparation of as-built documentation, punch-lists, and handover packages.
- Participate in regular project meetings, risk assessments, and quality & safety reviews.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by recommending design or process optimisations, standardisation, or efficiencies.
About You
Essential:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (or equivalent).
- 3-7 years' experience in electrical engineering, ideally with exposure to high-voltage systems, substations, or transmission/distribution networks.
- Experience with Australian electrical standards, regulations, and codes (or equivalent, depending on region).
- Knowledge of HV protection systems, earthing design, SCADA/telemetry, and commissioning practices.
- Proven experience (or at least some exposure) in preparing test procedures (ITPs, CTPs, FTPs), commissioning documentation, and executing commissioning or pre-commissioning activities.
- Strong technical documentation skills (drawings, reports, work packs).
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong problem-solving aptitude and attention to detail.
- Willingness to travel to sites periodically and (when required) spend time at project sites.
- Australian (or relevant local) working rights.
Desirable: - Experience in tender engineering / estimating (e.g., defining scope, cost modelling).
- Previous work in resource / mining, renewables, or infrastructure sectors.
- Experience with design software/tools (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP, PSCAD, DIgSILENT, or similar).
- Understanding of test equipment (Omicron, relay test sets, transformer test gear).
- Familiarity with safety management systems, permit-to-work processes, and site commissioning practices.
Why Join RSGx
- Work on high-impact, high-voltage infrastructure projects that support the energy transition (e.g., substations, transmission lines, renewable integration).
- Exposure to the full project lifecycle: from tendering and design through to construction, commissioning, and handover.
- Opportunity to work across a variety of industries: mining, renewables, infrastructure, water, defence, etc.
- Professional growth: work with experienced HV engineers and project teams; gain hands-on commissioning experience.
- Potential for site-based roles or travel, giving exposure to real-world, high-voltage environments.
- Collaborative and safety-first culture.
