About the role:
The Commercial Analyst plays a key role in helping the business make smart financial and strategic decisions. By analysing data, trends, and performance, they provide insights that support growth, improve margins, and reduce costs.
Working closely with finance, sales, and operations teams, the analyst builds models, develops business cases, and tracks performance against targets. The role requires strong analytical skills, commercial thinking, and the ability to communicate findings in a clear, actionable way to senior leaders.
In short, the Commercial Analyst ensures decisions are grounded in data and evidence, helping the business to achieve its strategic and financial goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial & Commercial Analysis
- Develop and maintain financial models, forecasts, and scenario planning.
- Analyse revenue, margin, and cost drivers to identify trends and opportunities.
- Support pricing, tenders, and contract negotiations with robust analysis.
Business Performance & Reporting - Produce monthly and quarterly performance reports with commentary.
- Monitor KPIs and provide insights to senior leadership.
- Assist in budgeting and long-range planning.
Decision Support - Prepare business cases for new initiatives, investments, and contracts.
- Provide recommendations to improve financial outcomes and operational efficiency.
- Partner with leaders to track benefits realisation from projects.
Data Integrity & Systems - Ensure accuracy of data used in analysis and reporting.
- Collaborate with IT/BI teams to improve data capture and reporting tools.
Key Skills & Attributes - Strong financial modelling and Excel/BI skills.
- Analytical thinker with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Commercial acumen and ability to link analysis to business outcomes.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Comfortable working with cross-functional teams.
What We Offer: - Fixed Term – Full Time for 12 months, Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, between 8:00am and 5:00pm in Auckland!!

Qualifications & Experience - -Tertiary qualification in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field.
- 2–5 years’ experience in a commercial, FP&A, or analyst role.
- Experience in logistics, supply chain, or service-based industries (desirable).
- Exposure to ERP/BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, SQL) an advantage.
KPIs / Success Measures - Timeliness and accuracy of reporting and analysis.
- Quality and clarity of insights provided to leadership.
- Contribution to improved commercial outcomes (margin, profitability).
- Stakeholder satisfaction and engagement.
- Delivery of accurate business cases and forecasting.
