Optometry Australia is the peak professional membership body representing Australian optometrists, committed to supporting its members with essential services, resources and advocacy that enable them to thrive in the ever-evolving optometry sector.
The Role Reporting to the Head of Marketing & Communications, you'll take specialist ownership of Optometry Australia's email marketing activity, combining strong email marketing capability with excellent content and communications skills.

This is a focused six-month appointment with a clear brief: lift the sophistication and performance of the email channel through better segmentation, automation, personalisation and data-informed decision-making. Alongside the campaign work, you'll build sustainable systems, document processes and transfer knowledge so the improvements continue well beyond the contract period.
Key Responsibilities - Plan, develop, edit, build, schedule, test and deploy email communications supporting member engagement, advocacy, events, professional development, campaigns and organisational updates, including regular eNewsletters, CEO updates, important professional communications and event promotions.
- Develop and edit clear, engaging and audience-appropriate email content, structuring information for readability, accessibility and action while maintaining Optometry Australia's brand, tone of voice and communications standards.
- Manage email production workflows from brief and audience selection through to approvals, testing, deployment and reporting, with thorough pre-send quality assurance.
- Review and improve the use of Mailchimp audiences, tags, groups, preferences, segments and custom fields, developing meaningful segments based on membership category, career stage, location, interests, behaviour and engagement.
- Map, design, build and optimise automated email journeys, developing appropriate triggers, delays, conditions, branches, goals and exit criteria for onboarding, engagement, retention, renewal, re-engagement and event participation.
- Build and maintain responsive, accessible and brand-aligned email templates, and troubleshoot formatting and rendering issues across devices, major email clients and dark mode.
- Establish a structured program of A/B testing across subject lines, sender information, content, calls to action, timing and layouts, with defined hypotheses and success measures.
- Monitor and report on delivery, opens, clicks, conversions, unsubscribes, bounces and engagement trends, translating results into clear recommendations and practical improvements.
- Support strong deliverability and data governance through list hygiene, suppression management, consent and privacy compliance, and appropriate authentication and platform settings.
- Develop documented processes, naming conventions, checklists and training materials, and transfer knowledge to the team so new systems and automations can be maintained after the contract concludes.

- Strong analytical capability, including experience managing A/B tests and interpreting delivery, open, click, conversion, unsubscribe, bounce and engagement data.
- An understanding of email deliverability, sender reputation, authentication and list hygiene principles.
- Strong written communication, editing and proofreading skills, with demonstrated experience developing email communications for different audiences and purposes.
- Ability to structure and edit email content for clarity, accessibility, engagement and action, including translating complex or detailed information into concise, reader-friendly communications.
