Optometry Australia is the peak professional membership body representing Australian optometrists, committed to supporting its members with essential services, resources and advocacy that enable them to thrive in the ever-evolving optometry sector.
The Role Reporting to the Head of Marketing & Communications, you'll take ownership of Optometry Australia's visual identity, protecting, applying and evolving the brand across every marketing, communications, campaign, publication, digital, event and stakeholder material the organisation produces.
This is a hands-on design role with genuine brand custodianship attached to it. You'll provide creative direction and design expertise across a wide range of print and digital assets, maintain the templates, asset libraries and brand systems that keep output consistent, and work closely with the Marketing & Communications team to translate messaging and organisational priorities into high-quality visual communications.
Key Responsibilities - Uphold, apply and evolve the Optometry Australia and related brand identities across all design outputs, providing creative direction and design advice on campaigns and organisational projects.
- Maintain and apply brand style guides, templates and visual standards across digital, print, event, publication, partner and stakeholder materials, and provide visual quality control on branded work.
- Design high-quality print and digital materials, including publications, reports, submissions, infographics, campaign collateral, digital banners, social graphics, website assets and presentation decks.
- Develop event branding, signage, trade show collateral and printed resources to support Optometry Australia events and stakeholder engagement.
- Produce or adapt multimedia content, including basic video, animation and interactive assets as required.
- Prepare print-ready artwork and digital files in line with technical specifications, colour management and production standards, and liaise with printers, signage providers, photographers and other suppliers.
- Develop and maintain branded templates, reusable design assets and Optometry Australia's central repository of visual assets, with clear file structures, version control and naming conventions.
- Manage image licensing, subscriptions and usage rights, ensuring compliance with licence conditions and appropriate image use.

To excel in this role, you should have:
- A tertiary qualification in graphic design, multimedia design, visual communication or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience in a design, multimedia or creative role with responsibility for brand application and visual identity.
- High proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat, together with strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly PowerPoint and branded document design.
- Experience using design, animation or content creation tools such as Canva, After Effects or similar platforms.
- A strong understanding of brand systems, visual identity, layout, typography, colour, image use and visual storytelling.
- Sound knowledge of print production processes, file formats, colour management, artwork preparation and supplier specifications.
- An understanding of UX/UI principles, digital design requirements and accessibility standards, including WCAG.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to interpret briefs, ask clarifying questions and explain design decisions clearly and professionally.
- High attention to detail, strong organisation and the ability to manage multiple design projects and competing deadlines.
- Experience in a health, education, not-for-profit, peak body or member-based organisation is an advantage but not essential.

This is an excellent opportunity for a designer who values consistency and craft to take custodianship of the brand of the national peak body for optometry in Australia, in a part-time role that offers genuine flexibility. Completion of Cultural Safety Training is a requirement of the role and will be provided by Optometry Australia within the first 12 months of employment, unless completed within the past five years.
