Finance and Assets Officer
Fixed Term Full time (12-month Parental Leave Cover)
The Opportunity
Council is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Finance and Assets Officer to join our financial services team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining Council’s fixed asset register and supporting accurate financial reporting across the asset lifecycle. Working closely with internal stakeholders, you will contribute to audits, asset valuations, project closeouts, and insurance management, helping ensure compliance and continuous improvement in asset accounting processes.

General Salary Information: This position is classified as Level 4 under the
Hinchinbrook Shire Council Local Government Officers (Stream A) Certified Agreement.
The salary is $85,954 per annum + superannuation ($45.5991 per hour)
Key Responsibilities - Accountable for maintaining an accurate and up to date register of fixed assets, ensuring that all relevant information, such as purchase date, cost, location, useful life and depreciation is recorded and tracked systematically;
- Perform regular reconciliation of the asset register to ensure data accuracy;
- Assist with internal and external audits related to the asset management, providing necessary documentation and explanations to auditors; and
- Continually evaluate and enhance asset accounting processes and controls to optimise efficiency and accuracy.

You will bring excellent attention to detail, strong numeracy skills, and the ability to analyse and reconcile complex data. Your communication and interpersonal skills will enable you to build positive relationships across the organisation, while your ability to manage competing priorities ensures high-quality outcomes. Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience, along with strong Microsoft Office skills and a current Queensland driver’s licence, will set you up for success in this role.

Mandatory: - Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or significant practical experience;
- Demonstrated understanding of the underlying principles of asset management;
- High level of numeracy skills with excellent attention to detail;
- Superior written and verbal communication skills;
- High level of interpersonal skills and the ability to apply problem solving and negotiation skills to build positive working relationships that positively influence internal and external stakeholder relationships;
- Well-developed computer literacy skills in Microsoft Office products;
- Strong time management, organisation, prioritisation and ability to work effectively both autonomously and as part of a team; and
- Current Queensland ‘C’ Class Drivers Licence (minimum P1).
