The Opportunity
Hinchinbrook Shire Council is seeking multiple motivated and reliable Operators to join our Infrastructure Operations team.
These roles play a vital part in delivering construction and maintenance activities across the region, including roadworks, drainage and general civil works. You will operate a range of plant and equipment -including water trucks (Level 4 roles), while contributing to high-quality service delivery and maintaining a strong focus on safety, environmental responsibility and teamwork.

General Salary Information These positions are classified under the
Hinchinbrook Shire Council Local Government Officers (Stream B) Certified Agreement.
Level 3C - Salary is $64,816 per annum + superannuation ($32.8018 per hour)
Level 4C - Salary is $66,003 per annum + superannuation ($33.4025 per hour)
Our Ideal CandidateWe are seeking reliable and capable Operators who take pride in delivering safe, high-quality work. You have experience operating plant in civil construction or local government environments and a strong commitment to safety and teamwork. You are adaptable, willing to undertake a mix of plant operation and labouring tasks, and able to work effectively in outdoor conditions while contributing to essential infrastructure services for the community.
Key Responsibilities - Level 3C - Operate a range of plant and machinery used in municipal operations, including backhoe, roller, loader, skid steer and excavator (not required to operate all)
- Perform routine inspections, servicing and minor maintenance to ensure equipment is safe and operational
- Assist with civil construction and maintenance activities, including roadworks, drainage, footpaths and related infrastructure
- Undertake manual labour as required, including concreting, asphalting, site preparation and basic traffic management duties
Key Responsibilities - Level 4C - Operate water trucks safely and efficiently for road construction, maintenance, dust suppression, fire prevention and landscaping activities
- Apply water to sealed and unsealed roads, worksites, parks and facilities in line with operational and environmental requirements
- Safely load, transport and distribute water, ensuring efficient use and minimal environmental impact
- Operate a range of plant and machinery to support works activities, including backhoe, roller, loader, skid steer and excavator (not required to operate all)

Mandatory: - Experience in basic routine maintenance and safe operation of plant as an Operator within Local Government or the Civil Construction industry;
- Current Construction White Card (General Construction Induction);
- Competency (or relevant certification) in operating plant and machinery such as backhoe, roller, loader, skid steer and excavator
- Physical ability to undertake manual handling and labouring duties for extended periods in outdoor and varying weather conditions;
- Current Queensland C Class Driver Licence or equivalent;
- Ability to provide feedback and work status updates using verbal, written or electronic methods, or willingness to undertake training;
- Ability to work safely and productively under routine supervision, following instructions, procedures and Work Health and Safety requirements; and
- Current Queensland HR Driver Licence (Required for Level 4 roles)
Desirable:
- Certificate III in Civil Construction (Plant Operations) or willingness to obtain
- Experience in form-setting and concreting
- Competency in Traffic Control and Traffic Management Implementation or the ability and willingness to obtain
Level 3 applicants will have the opportunity to progress to Level 4 upon obtaining a Queensland HR Driver Licence within six (6) months of commencement. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Applicants must be able to safely and competently carry out strenuous labouring and manual handling activities. The position will require the employee to carry out physical tasks which may include manual handling, repetitive bending, kneeling, twisting and/or squatting, lifting, working in confined spaces, and working at heights.
