The Opportunity Council is excited to offer a Trainee position in the Finance Services Department! This opportunity is ideal for those eager to gain hands-on experience and develop essential administration skills while completing a Certificate III in Business Administration. The traineeship is structured as a 12-month program, with no guarantee of employment beyond this period.
This traineeship is funded through a Government supported initiative, and eligibility for this funding is required for appointment. Applicants will need to complete the attached Eligibility Questionnaire, and funding eligibility will be assessed upon receiving your application.
Key Responsibilities: - Answering telephones in a professional, helpful, and friendly manner;
- Providing professional and courteous customer service to internal and external stakeholders;
- Performing tasks as directed by the supervisor, in line with the trainee’s skills, competence, and training;
- Assisting with data entry, electronic filing, scanning, and records management;
- Maintaining general office cleanliness and organisation;
- Supporting a range of administrative and customer service tasks as required; and
- Actively participating in all training activities and completing coursework and assessments by the required deadlines.

Key Selection Criteria: - Willingness and ability to develop the skills required to provide administrative support in an office environment;
- Basic knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, email, and internet use;
- Enthusiastic, positive, and motivated, with a strong willingness to support a small team;
- Demonstrated potential to develop strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to build and maintain effective internal and external relationships to support service delivery standards; and
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to taking ownership of tasks and seeing them through to completion.
Desirable Criteria: - Completion of Year 12 or equivalent; and
- Current Queensland C Class driver’s license.
General Salary Information
Wages and Conditions of employment will be determined in accordance with the Order – Apprentices’ and Trainees’ Wages and Conditions (Excluding Certain Queensland Government Entities) 2003; Training Wage Award – State 2012; Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream A) Award – State 2017 and Council’s Certified Agreement 2023.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Applicants must be able to safely and competently carry out strenuous labouring and manual handling activities. The position will require the employee to carry out physical tasks which may include manual handling, repetitive bending, kneeling, twisting and/or squatting, lifting, working in confined spaces, and working at heights.
