Pest and Rehabilitation Officer
Fixed Term Full Time Position (30 June 2027)

The Opportunity
As a member of the Natural Assets Team, reporting to the Senior Pest and Rehabilitation Officer, you will undertake activities aimed at protecting and enhancing the unique environment that is the Hinchinbrook Shire.

On any given day, you could be undertaking a range of tasks such as planting and maintaining native vegetation, removing invasive species, stabilising riverbanks to prevent erosion and data collection in order to restore and preserve the health of buffer zones and coastal waterways in our district. You will possess good communication skills as a key aspect of the role may be engaging with landholders and agency field staff.

Skills and Qualifications:
- Transferrable experience, or ability to acquire knowledge, in coastal, invasive species or natural resource management, including a working knowledge of relevant interventions and legislation;
- Current Queensland ‘C’ Class license (mandatory);
- Experience in the operation of 4wd vehicles (mandatory);
- Current Queensland Commercial Operators License – Herbicides (Highly desirable or the ability to obtain);
- Demonstrated sound written and verbal communication skills and confidence to liaise, negotiate with and transfer knowledge to a wide range of people and stakeholders;
- Computer literacy skills in Microsoft Office products and other information technologies including Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and mapping software;
- Demonstrated ability to participate productively to a team environment and to work autonomously with minimal supervision; and
- A Degree or Certificate in Natural Resource Management (NRM) or a related field (highly regarded but not essential).

What Council Offers: - 72.5-hour fortnight with roster variations depending on the position (9-day fortnight - RDOs in accordance with Council policy);

General Salary Information Level 2 + District + Construction $70,168 per annum plus superannuation. $37.22 per hour.
Pre-employment Screening Pre-employment screening includes Medicals, Drug and Alcohol Testing, and Criminal History Checks to ensure capability to perform the inherent requirements of the role.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Applicants must be able to safely and competently carry out strenuous labouring and manual handling activities. The position will require the employee to carry out physical tasks which may include manual handling, repetitive bending, kneeling, twisting and/or squatting, lifting, working in confined spaces, and working at heights.
