The Opportunity Council is now taking expressions of interest for our 2025 Trainee and Apprenticeship programs!
These roles offer the ideal pathway for individuals eager to gain hands-on experience, build valuable skills, and earn a nationally recognised qualification.
Programs will vary from 1 to 4 years based on the course, there is no guarantee of employment beyond this period, however, Council believes in growing our own and will make every effort to offer ongoing employment.
These opportunities are part of a Government supported initiative, and eligibility for this funding is a requirement for appointment.
Applicants must complete the attached Eligibility Questionnaire, and funding eligibility will be evaluated upon receipt of your application.
Traineeships and Apprenticeships on offer: - Information Technology Traineeship – Certificate III in Information Technology
- Business Administration Traineeship – Certificate III in Business
- Apprentice Plumber - Certificate III in Plumbing
- Apprentice Fitter and Turner – Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade (Fitting/Machining)
Key Responsibilities include (but not limited to): - Assisting with day-to-day tasks in your designated department, gaining practical experience in your chosen field;
- Participating in team projects to meet department goals;
- Actively participating in training sessions and coursework for the Certificate III or IV qualification;
- Maintaining accurate records and documentation as required;
- Providing excellent customer service and engaging positively with both internal and external stakeholders.
Please address each of the following criteria, detailing how you have demonstrated each skill or quality, and include relevant examples from your work, school, or extracurricular experiences. Candidates will be shortlisted based on how effectively these selection criteria are addressed.
Essential Criteria: - In your statement, please specify which Traineeship or Apprenticeship you are applying for and explain why this particular opportunity interests you;
- Demonstrated communication skills required for receiving technical instructions both written and verbal;
- Basic word processing and data input/retrieval computer skills’
- Demonstrated ability to complete assessments or studies within designated timeframes;
- Examples of teamwork skills in work, school, or extracurricular settings, including how you communicate in these environments;
- A situation where you successfully learned and developed new skills;
- Examples of how you prioritise and manage tasks to meet deadlines.
Desirable Criteria: - Possession of a C class driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within three months of employment.
General Salary Information Wages and Conditions of employment will be determined in accordance with the Order – Apprentices’ and Trainees’ Wages and Conditions (Excluding Certain Queensland Government Entities) 2003; Training Wage Award – State 2012; Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream C) Award – State 2017 and Council’s Certified Agreement 2023.
Pre-employment Screening Pre-employment screening includes Medicals, Drug and Alcohol Testing, and Criminal History Checks to ensure capability to perform the inherent requirements of the role.
