Our client, a leading industrial and specialty construction contractor, is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join their growing Lancaster, PA team.
As a Payroll Specialist, you'll ensure accurate and timely payroll processing for hourly employees across multiple branches, including union and non-union staff, while maintaining strong communication with branch managers and field teams. You'll manage payroll for 2-3 branches independently, including multi-state operations, balancing data entry, reporting, and administrative responsibilities, while supporting the overall payroll team during a period of growth and expansion. This role is heavily data-focused but also requires collaboration with HR and field staff to resolve payroll questions and maintain compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
- Process weekly payroll for hourly employees, ensuring accuracy of wages, taxes, benefits, and deductions
- Administer timekeeping systems and provide guidance to field staff on proper use
- Maintain employee payroll records and update information in payroll software
- Handle voluntary and involuntary deductions; transmit files and payments to appropriate agencies
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including certified payroll for union employees
- Reconcile union remittance payments to the general ledger on a monthly basis
- Prepare and submit state and local payroll tax returns, including ACH payments
- Assist in payroll tax registrations for new states and maintain accurate unemployment rates
- Support payroll audits for union, financial, and workers' compensation purposes
- Communicate effectively with branch managers regarding payroll schedules, changes, and issue resolution
- Manage multiple branches independently, adjusting workload based on branch size and payroll needs
- Collaborate with HR and payroll team members to ensure coordinated benefits, deductions, and compliance
Requirements: - 2+ years of payroll processing experience, ideally for hourly employees
- Multi-state payroll experience preferred
- Proficiency in MS Word and Excel required
- Familiarity with Oracle payroll systems a plus, but not required
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with branch managers and field staff
- High school diploma required; further education a plus
- Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to learn and grow
Salary: $60,000 - $65,000 + annual discretionary bonus
Hours: 8:30am-5pm
Hybrid: 3 days onsite, 2 days remote
