Our client, a global leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance sterilization systems, is seeking a Mechanical Process Engineer to join their engineering team onsite in Southampton, PA.
In this role, you’ll be hands-on in designing and engineering custom sterilization systems — from ASME pressure vessels and piping assemblies to full process equipment skids and altitude chamber systems. Every project is engineered to order, offering variety and technical depth across industries including biotech, pharma, and defense.
You’ll be part of a cross-functional engineering team responsible for full-cycle mechanical design, system layout, component selection, and documentation. This is a high-impact role with room to grow, and the team is seeking someone who brings strong experience in stainless steel piping systems, vacuum vessels, or custom machinery — and is ready to take ownership in an environment where no two systems are exactly alike.
If you're energized by engineered-to-order equipment, fluid dynamics, and want to grow with a company building next-gen sterilization systems, this could be your next long-term move.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and engineer custom sterilization systems and components, including piping assemblies, pressure vessels, and altitude/pressure chambers.
- Select and size valves, pumps, piping, and other mechanical components to ensure system performance and compliance with specifications.
- Perform system calculations such as flow rates, pressure drops, and altitude adjustments to optimize sterilization processes.
- Translate customer requirements into clear engineering specifications and collaborate closely with sales, project managers, manufacturing, and electrical/control teams.
- Support fabrication and assembly processes by providing technical guidance on piping and component selection.
- Interpret mechanical drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and process schematics to support engineering, manufacturing, and sales teams.
- Troubleshoot process and system issues in production or field environments, recommending effective solutions.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing standard product configurations with custom client requirements.
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation, ensuring adherence to project timelines in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting.
Requirements: - 5+ years of experience in mechanical or process engineering, preferably supporting engineered-to-order or custom equipment.
- Expertise in piping systems, including precise valve and pump sizing, stainless steel tubing, and fluid dynamics for process applications.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, piping, and electrical schematics, including fabrication drawings and P&IDs.
- Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor
- Familiarity with steam, refrigeration, pneumatic, and/or vacuum systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to juggle multiple technical priorities with minimal oversight.
