About the Role
The Assistant Financial Controller is a key leadership role within the finance department, responsible for conducting, overseeing and directing the financial activities of the organization. This position involves focus on financial control, financial analysis, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The Assistant Financial Controller plays a crucial role in providing financial insights to support decision-making and contributing to the overall financial health of the company.
The Assistant Financial Controller together with the corporate accounting team, will complete the day-to-day accounting and monthly reporting for the business. This includes managing corporate accounts payable and receivable, monthly journals, capex register, balance sheet reconciliations, bank reconciliations, cashflow, accounting for events, all taxation compliance including GST, FBT, Income Tax, tax effect accounting, supporting Group Finance with Statutory Disclosures and collaborating with the Financial Controller for the preparation of month end reporting, and variance analysis.
A key aspect of this role is ensuring the integrity of the P&L and Balance Sheet, month end P&L reporting within 4 business days and monthly variance analysis and reporting.
The Assistant Financial Controller will also be an integral part of shaping and optimising the transition and integration with our offshore financial services provider. This will include staff management, review of daily/monthly tasks are performed to minimum standards and ensure all constant feedback is provided for process improvements.
The role is also responsible for the continuous review and improvement of accounting processes, including interactions with other areas of the business, to determine process improvements to increase efficiency and effectiveness of team processes and automate and integrate wherever possible.
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field
• CPA or CA Qualification is preferred
• Strong technical accounting experience, including consolidations and tax
• 5+ years experience
• Experience with offshore staff integration, management and partnership is highly desirable
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Demonstrate the drive to achieve team results
• Experience in the travel industry either finance or operations is desirable, but not essential
• Advanced level experience in the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
• Experience with SAP Business One and Tramada system or similar accounting / travel package is desirable, but not essential
• Strong Leadership and People Management skills, including ability to manage change in a positive manner
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and reporting standards.
• Proficient in financial modeling and analysis.
• Excellent time management and prioritisation skills
• Experience in taxation related areas, such as FBT, Income Tax and GST is preferred
• Ability to professionally interact with all facets of the broader business and external parties
• Team player with a strong work ethic
• Self-motivated and leading by example
