The Organisation
Interplast Australia & New Zealand (Interplast) was founded in 1983 and is a not-for-profit development organisation providing volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgery and health capacity-building programs across the Asia–Pacific.
Through teams of surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, and allied health professionals, Interplast partners with local clinicians to deliver surgical care, education, and training — improving lives and strengthening health systems.
Partnering with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), Rotary, and DFAT, Interplast combines medical excellence with sustainable, long-term development impact.
In 2024–25, Interplast delivered more than 20 regional programs, provided hundreds of life-changing surgeries, and strengthened clinical capacity in over a dozen partner countries.
The Opportunity
This is more than a leadership role — it’s a rare opportunity to create generational impact.
As Chief Executive Officer, you’ll guide Interplast into its next strategic phase by leading a talented team and an extraordinary network of volunteers who bring surgical and humanitarian expertise to communities across the region.
Reporting to the Board, you’ll oversee the renewal of DFAT accreditation (March 2026) while driving growth, financial sustainability, and regional partnerships that strengthen health systems.
You’ll balance strategic foresight with hands-on leadership — from shaping funding partnerships to empowering a small, passionate team. Every day, you’ll see the tangible results of your leadership reflected in lives transformed.
Your focus will include:
- Delivering and executing the strategic plan
- Leading successful DFAT re-accreditation
- Strengthening partnerships with RACS, Rotary, DFAT, and regional governments
- Driving financial sustainability through philanthropy and institutional partnerships
- Building and empowering a cohesive, high-performing team
- Representing Interplast as a trusted advocate for surgical equality and capacity-building
The Person We’re seeking a credible, values-driven leader who can inspire confidence and collaboration across clinical, international development, and government sectors. You’ll bring both strategic insight and human connection — the ability to engage with partners at the highest level while fostering a culture of purpose, trust, and growth within the organisation.
You’re the kind of leader who believes that impact happens through people — someone who can move seamlessly between the boardroom and the field, between strategy and storytelling. You’ll bring energy, resilience, humility, and the kind of leadership that inspires others to give their best because they know they’re part of something bigger.
You will bring:
- Senior executive experience in a mission-driven or health-related organisation
- Strong understanding of governance, funding, and regulatory frameworks (including DFAT/ACFID)
- Financial acumen and strategic foresight
- Exceptional stakeholder management and partnership skills
- Authentic leadership that inspires collaboration, trust, and accountability
A background in healthcare, humanitarian development, or allied health will be highly regarded.
The Rewards This is more than a leadership opportunity — it’s a chance to shape an enduring legacy.
- Lead one of Australia’s most respected humanitarian organisations — shaping Interplast’s future impact across the Asia–Pacific
- Collaborate with world-class clinicians and development partners
- Influence national and regional health outcomes
- Competitive remuneration with not-for-profit salary packaging
- Purpose, autonomy, and the opportunity to create lasting change
