Manufacturing Engineering Manager

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineering Manager to join an innovative engineering and manufacturing environment. A leadership role responsible for bridging the gap between engineering, product development and production, ensuring new and existing products can be successfully manufactured at scale.
You will lead New Product Introduction (NPI), manufacturing readiness, continuous improvement and engineering change activities, while working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain and other key stakeholders.
 
The role will suit an experienced manufacturing or product industrialisation engineer who enjoys working across both technical and operational environments and can translate engineering designs into practical, repeatable manufacturing processes.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Lead the transfer of new products and engineering designs into production, from development through to production ramp-up.
• Lead and coordinate NPI and product industrialisation activities, ensuring products are ready for manufacture.
• Work closely with Engineering and R&D teams during the early stages of product development, providing manufacturing and production input.
• Act as the link between engineering and production, identifying manufacturing challenges and coordinating practical solutions.
• Develop, implement and maintain manufacturing processes, procedures, work instructions and production documentation.
• Support pilot builds, production implementation, validation and manufacturing readiness activities.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives across products, processes, quality and manufacturing efficiency.
• Investigate and resolve production and product quality issues, including issues identified through manufacturing or customer feedback.
• Manage engineering changes and coordinate the implementation of design improvements into production.
• Support product obsolescence and component availability issues, including alternative component sourcing, assessment and validation.
• Work with Supply Chain and Purchasing teams on supplier selection, qualification, component changes and supplier improvement.
• Support risk assessments, FMEA activities, validation requirements and quality processes.
• Establish and improve industrialisation standards, processes and best practices.
• Lead, coach and develop a small team of engineers and technical specialists.
• Manage engineering resources and contribute to industrialisation project planning and delivery.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship across manufacturing engineering and product development activities.

About You
 
You will be an experienced engineer with a strong background in manufacturing engineering, industrialisation, NPI, product development or production engineering.
 

• A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics or a related discipline.
• Strong experience transferring products from engineering/design into manufacturing and production.
• Demonstrated experience across NPI, industrialisation and production readiness.
• Experience developing and improving manufacturing processes and production documentation.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate and resolve product, process and manufacturing issues.
• Experience managing engineering changes and implementing design improvements into production.
• Experience working across multiple functions, including Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain and Purchasing.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Previous experience leading, coaching or mentoring engineers or technical specialists.
• A practical, hands-on approach to engineering and manufacturing.
• The ability to work autonomously while also collaborating effectively within a cross-functional team.

A PLUS BUT NOT REQUIRED

• Experience within a highly engineered, technology-driven or regulated manufacturing environment.
• Experience with electronic, electrical, mechanical, optical or mechatronic products.
• Previous hardware or electronics design experience, including PCB design, schematics, layout, verification or validation.
• Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience.
• Project management experience or qualifications.
• Experience with FMEA, validation, quality systems and engineering change processes.
• Postgraduate qualifications in Engineering or Manufacturing.

Leadership & Team Environment
You will lead a small, multidisciplinary engineering team and work closely with engineers across different technical disciplines.
The role provides the opportunity to influence manufacturing capability, product design, industrialisation processes and continuous improvement, while helping establish best practices for future product development and production.
