Senior Hardware Engineer - RF & Digital Design

Join a leading Australian engineering company developing advanced electronic and sonar systems for the defence and maritime sectors.
We’re seeking an experienced
Senior Hardware Engineer to take ownership of complex electronic design projects supporting mission-critical technology.
About the Role:You’ll be responsible for the design, development, and testing of high-performance RF and digital systems used in mission critical defence applications. The role requires strong end-to-end design capability, from schematic capture and PCB layout through to testing, validation, and production support. You must be an Australian citizen.
Key Responsibilities: - Design VHF/UHF RF and digital electronic systems meeting EMC/EMI and defence-grade standards;
- Produce schematics, select materials, and oversee PCB layout (Altium) and manufacturing;
- Develop and specify system-level and component-level test procedures;
- Conduct hands-on fault finding and performance analysis of electronic systems;
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, software, and systems engineers on integrated solutions;
- Take ownership of technical quality, risk identification, and project delivery milestones
Skills & Experience Required: - Proven experience in RF and digital system design;
- Proficiency in Altium Designer and PCB layout principles;
- Strong understanding of EMC/EMI compliance requirements;
- Experience with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, and VNAs;
- Knowledge of quality systems, configuration management, and production methods;
- Excellent communication, documentation, and self-management skills;
- Australian citizenship (NV1 Security Clearance eligibility).
Desirable: - Experience developing products for defence or aerospace environments;
- Understanding of MIL-STD EMC and environmental standards;
- Exposure to mechanical design of enclosures or mounts (SolidWorks 3D design systems).
