Job Description & Synthesis
Our client, a leading Southeastern bank, is looking for a Commercial Underwriter to join their growing team. In this role, you will review credit data to evaluate commercial loan requests seeking credit approval. Analyze financial information, such as financial statements, projections, cash flows, industry trends, and credit bureau reports to determine potential opportunity, risk, and profitability of loans and other credit products.
Provides supporting research/analysis and participates in screening of new credit opportunities.
Reviews the proposed loan structure to determine if appropriate to sufficiently mitigate and manage risk.
Interacts with prospective and existing clients as needed.
Analyzes data such as business financials, industry research, personal financials, and tax returns in evaluating key risks and mitigants of credit opportunities.
Performs independent credit analysis and risk assessment on larger, more complex credit relationships.
Prepares written underwriting presentations for new and additional credit proposals and collaborates with Relationship Manager in presentation for approval.
Makes independent recommendations, supported by comprehensive written analysis, regarding credit risk.
Conducts ongoing borrower performance and trend monitoring, proactively identifying issues and developing remediation proposals for elevation to Relationship Manager and Risk Management.
Assists with training and development of other credit underwriting staff.
Complies with KYC, OFAC, and BSA/AML rules and regulations.
Exercises awareness with regard to possible suspicious activity, money laundering or fraudulent behavior and reports any such incidents to the BSA department. Performs all job functions in compliance with all company policies and federal, state, and local laws and regulations as applicable to the position, including, but not limited to BSA/AML, OFAC and GLBA/privacy rules.
Advanced knowledge of commercial credit underwriting policies, procedures and processes.
Advanced knowledge of BSA, AML, KYC, and OFAC.
Excellent analytical skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, & Outlook).
Familiarity with legal documents.
Ability to be a self-starter looking to be part of a team developing a business
Ability to be detailed oriented.

Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics, or Business or equivalent years of work experience preferred.
5-7 years of experience working in commercial credit analysis and commercial underwriting.
Previous experience with Commercial and Industrial Loans as well as Commercial Real Estate Loans in the banking industry required.
Completion of formal credit training program desire
