Job Description & Synthesis
Our client, a leading bank in the Southwest, is looking for an Operational Risk Manager to join their growing team. In this role, you will facilitate the end to end loan-level due diligence to assure investment quality lending aligned with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA and USDA guidelines. Conduct due diligence relevant to credit quality, fraud preventions and other areas as needed. Formalize results in write-ups for the internal and external audiences to conclude and clearly articulate exposures, remediation opportunities, rebuttal justifications and/or red flag due diligence conclusions.
Manages agency/investor guideline research to ascertain areas of compliance and/or non-compliance relative to escalations from production, post-close, servicing, investor/insurer audits and other areas as needed.
Resolves and manages loan deficiency disputes in a professional and courteous manner within designated SLA's.
Leads and provides written and documented support for investor/insurer requests, including review of document deliveries.
Maintains and enhances a centralized and shared tracking system to document, organize and report on various requests from investors from receipt to resolution.
Maintains and enhances tracking to support fraud prevention due diligence, outcomes, AML/BSA Officer collaboration, and reporting.
Coordinates and/or hosts certain investor/agency examinations as needed.
Provides research and clarification in response to underwriting management questions surrounding guideline requirements via research and/or collaboration with investors/insurers.
Recommends updates to underwriting overlay matrices as needed.
Assists with writing policy and procedures relative to the risk area.
Exercises awareness with regard to possible suspicious activity, money laundering or fraudulent behavior and reports any such incidents to the BSA department. Performs all job functions in compliance with all company policies and federal, state, and local laws and regulations as applicable to the position, including, but not limited to BSA/AML, OFAC and GLBA/privacy rules.
Advanced knowledge with red flag patterns and trends associated with areas such as short sales, REO schemes, occupancy, income, employment, straw buyers, appraisal, property flipping & flopping.
Advanced knowledge of investor/insurer guidelines, including FHLMC, FNMA, FHA, VA, and USDA.
Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products with strong proficiencies in Excel.
Good writing, communication and interpretation skills.
Excellent problem-solving skills, a self-starting attitude, and strong communication skills are essential.
Excellent data management and organization skills as well as time management skills.
Ability to stay abreast of industry updates and news.
Ability to make prudent underwriting decisions in a time-sensitive environment while collaborating and communicating with key stakeholders and senior-level management.
Ability to conduct objective and unbiased investigations into allegations of misrepresentation, omission or misstatements relative to origination and servicing.
Ability to interface effectively with senior management.
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or equivalent years of experience.
5-7 years in the Mortgage Industry, preferably in underwriting and fraud prevention or repurchase or quality control management
