Head of Computational Biology - Eye Health & Emerging Areas
Location: Germany
KEMIO has been retained by a global, research-led biopharmaceutical company to appoint a Head of Computational Biology for its Eye Health and Emerging Areas portfolio.
This is a senior scientific leadership role at the intersection of computational biology, translational research and precision medicine.
The successful candidate will define and lead the computational strategy across a portfolio spanning retinal vascular dysfunction, neurodegeneration and inflammation, while also supporting emerging modalities and research areas including gene therapy, regenerative medicine and the microbiome.
Working across discovery, translational medicine and clinical development, the Director will use multi-omics, imaging, bioinformatics and AI/ML to generate insights that strengthen target discovery, biomarker development, patient stratification and treatment-response prediction.
The role will also lead and develop a multidisciplinary computational biology team of seven experienced scientists.
Key areas of focus include:
• Age-related macular degeneration
• Diabetes-related eye disease
• Inherited retinal diseases
• Neurodegenerative disease
• Gene therapy and regenerative medicine
• Multimodal biomarker and patient-stratification strategies
We are interested in speaking with senior computational biology leaders who bring:
• A PhD or equivalent experience in computational biology, bioinformatics, ophthalmology or a related discipline
• A strong record of leadership across pharmaceutical, biotechnology or translational research environments
• Expertise in retinal disease, systems biology, neurovascular biology or inflammatory mechanisms
• Experience applying AI/ML to biomarker discovery, imaging or multimodal data integration
• The ability to build teams, influence portfolio strategy and translate complex science into clear decisions
This is an opportunity to shape computational science within a strategically important therapeutic area and help advance new treatments for patients affected by serious and sight-threatening diseases.
