Principal Scientist - Statistical Genomics – Germany

KEMIO is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to fill the position of Principal Scientist - Statistical Genomics / Human Genetics. This role will be instrumental in leading a small team of experienced Senior Scientists with expertise in human cohort phenotyping, statistical genetics, functional genomics, translational research, and statistical modelling. You will be guiding the strategy for this team, managing new and existing external collaborations, and supporting the implementation of the broader Computational Biology / Human Genetics roadmap.
The new Principal Scientist will be responsible for managing and partnering on projects that involve the combination of single-cell genetics and human genetics. You will be proposing, developing, evaluating, and applying novel methods that enable understanding of single-cell phenotypes through genetics and their application in drug discovery. The ultimate goal is to drive faster, and improved decision making in order to identify impactful first-in-class therapies for patients across several disease areas.
Responsibilities:
- Leading a team of statistical and genetics scientists all PhD level with several years in the pharmaceutical industry, and expertise across genomics, disease translation, machine learning and animal health
- Contributing to the goal of delivering novel therapeutic concepts in disease areas including inflammation, metabolic, immuno-oncology and oncology
- Building core genomic capabilities that will advance understanding of human diseases, deliver insights on the cellular / molecular mechanisms and translational opportunities
- Driving strategies of genomics driven drug discovery, collaborating with cross-functional teams, including Computational Biology, Digital Science, and Data Infrastructure teams
- Pioneering advancements in technology capability, influencing the efficiency and scalability of discovery solutions
- Proposing and implementing cutting-edge methods to ensure the team is at the forefront of the latest technology and translational knowledge
- Leading external collaborations with CROs and academia, managing additional PostDocs, and seeking new opportunities for partnership
- Presenting strategies and findings to stakeholders and diverse audiences
Experience Required:
- PhD degree in Statistical Genetics, Bioinformatics, Genetic Epidemiology, Computational Biology, Statistics, Computer Science
- Experience working within the pharmaceutical industry with several years of line management experience
- Deep knowledge of statistical genetics, genomics with proven experience in developing advanced techniques, software development in R/Python
- Proven past experience in bringing innovative new ideas to your team as well as skills in working collaboratively with leadership and stakeholders
- Excellent communication in English and great presentation skills with the ability to communicate research projects and their impact to non-technical audiences and stakeholders
