Principal Data Engineer – Real World Data  
Location: UK / Remote 
Reports to: CTO 
Type: Full-Time 
Salary: £70,000 - £90,000 Plus benefits 
  
KEMIO Consulting is supporting the search for a Principal Data Engineer to work on an innovative platform that collects data end to end from patients and clinical trial sites. 
  
The Principal Data Engineer will lead analytics projects on clinical research data. The role's core responsibilities include designing and implementing reports and dashboards, coordinating activities with other teams within the company, and managing delivery of data products to clinicians and customers. Candidates are expected to demonstrate experience with clinical research data, fluency in clinical concepts, expertise in statistical and analytics methods as well as the requisite technical skills.  
  
You will lead the creation of statistically robust, semantically meaningful, and operationally impactful data products that accelerate research, support better patient outcomes, and reinforce the company’s position as a leader in data-driven clinical innovation. 
  
Responsibilities: 

• With external domain experts and internal clinical team, develop analysis plan and semantic models required for plan. 
• Working alongside the data and product teams, design, build, and maintain data and necessary data pipelines 
• Choose appropriate statistical and analytical methods. 
• Develop data quality tests and monitoring to be applied at various stages of data processing 
• Work with analysts and engineers to enable visualizations through Tableau and similar tools. 
• Maintain accurate documentation describing data and methods. 
• Manage schedule of data product deliveries. 
• Estimate work efforts required for new projects. 

Required Experience:

• Experience in healthcare, clinical research, or public health data environments. 
• Experience of working with data and product teams to design, build and maintain data pipelines 
• 3+ years of experience in data science, analytics engineering, data engineering plus analytics, or related data roles. 
• Demonstrable understanding of clinical concepts, such as disease conditions, types of treatment, types of medications, outcomes. 
• Knowledge of statistical principles and methods, such as regressions, time series analysis, cohort comparison, survival analysis. 
• Command of SQL and experience with multiple RDBMS systems such as SQL Server, MySQL, Redshift/PostgreSQL. 
• Proficiency in statistical analysis tools such as R or SAS. 
• Proficiency in scripting or programming languages needed for automation of analytics processes. 
• Ability and willingness to collaborate with other contributors such as clinicians, software developers, sales, customer support. 

  
Desirable Skills: 
  

• Experience with Machine Learning and other AI techniques. 
• Familiarity with clinical data standards such as OMOP and FHIR. 
• Understanding of data governance. 
• Understanding of security and privacy laws and regulation, such as HIPAA, 21 CFR, PIPEDA, and GDPR.
