About the role:
 
Based in Townsville, home to one of Australia's largest Defence and veteran communities, this role is an opportunity to strengthen the local networks that support veterans and their families across North Queensland.

As an Engagement Officer, you'll be RSL Queensland's key connection to our Sub Branches, working alongside volunteer leaders to build strong, sustainable organisations that continue supporting veterans and their local communities.
 
No two days are the same. One day you might help a Sub Branch committee with governance or ACNC reporting; the next you're supporting volunteers to deliver initiatives such as Rec Connect, Community Link or Draw to Remember. You'll also play an important role in our "no wrong door" approach, helping connect veterans with the right services when they need them most.

What you'll do:

• Build trusted relationships with our Sub Branches, District Offices, councils, community groups and stakeholders
• Support volunteer committees with governance, future planning, membership growth and long-term sustainability
• Promote veteran initiatives, school visits and cadet engagement activities
• Support Sub Branches to address operational, financial and organisational challenges
• Support ACNC and other regulatory reporting requirements

This is a permanent, full-time role based in Townsville, with regular travel across North Queensland. Occasional weekend and after-hours work is required to support community events and commemorations.

About you:
You're a relationship-focused professional who enjoys building partnerships, solving problems and making a positive impact.
 
We strongly encourage applications from ADF veterans, Reservists, current and former Sub Branch members, and people who have worked closely with the Defence and veteran community.
 
We also welcome applicants from stakeholder engagement, community development, business development, local government, membership organisations and the not-for-profit sector.
 
To be successful, you'll bring:

• ADF service, experience working with current or former Defence personnel, or a strong understanding of the Defence and veteran community
• Strong relationship-building and communication skills
• The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and support volunteers
• Confidence working with reports, budgets and Microsoft Word and Excel
• A current Driver Licence and Working with Children Card (or the ability to obtain one)
• Flexibility to travel throughout the region and occasionally work
  outside standard business hours
