Scenic Hotel Group is looking for a skilled painter who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in quality finishes, and is confident leading refurbishment and maintenance projects across our hotel network. If you’re experienced, adaptable, and keen to travel, this could be your next step.

About the Role
This is a full-time, on-the-tools position combining practical trade work with project coordination. Based in Christchurch, you’ll travel regularly to Scenic Hotel properties and other destinations nationwide to deliver refurbishment and maintenance projects. You’ll work across interiors, public spaces, and exteriors—sometimes solo, sometimes supervising contractors or collaborating with other trades. Expect variety, responsibility, and the chance to showcase your craftsmanship.

What You’ll Do

• High-quality painting, plastering, and surface repairs
• Surface prep: sanding, filling, sealing, priming, undercoating
• Brush, roller, and spray application
• Minor GIB fixing and plasterboard repairs
• Timber staining, varnishing, and oiling
• Sealant and silicone application
• Wallpaper removal and installation (advantageous)
• Accurate colour matching and paint mixing
• Exterior maintenance: façade repairs, weatherboards, trims, balustrades
• Safe use of trade equipment: spray guns, sanders, ladders, scaffolding, EWP

What We’re Looking For

• Proven painting and plastering experience
• Strong attention to detail and pride in your work
• Ability to work independently and lead small teams
• Comfortable supervising contractors and managing materials
• Good planning and time management skills
• Understanding of health & safety and working in live environments
• Full NZ driver’s licence and willingness to travel (Class 2 licence a bonus)
• EWP / Working at Heights certification (or willingness to train)

Extra points for:

• Wallpapering skills
• Knowledge of low-VOC paint systems
• Basic estimating and cost tracking experience
