Position: Environmental Health Officer
Start: Early February 2025
Duration: 6 months
Salary: $1,952 per week plus superannuation
Location: Picton NSW
 
Primary Purpose of the Position
 
To be an integral and dynamic member of the Environmental Health Team with the ability to multi-skill in all required aspects of the Client’s regulatory functions.
 
Key accountabilities/responsibilities

• Investigate complaints, undertake and confer as necessary with the Team Leader Environmental Health in the assessment of applications and referrals made under the requirements of the Local Government Act 1993 (NSW), Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 other relevant Acts and Regulations.
• Undertake inspections under the Food Regulation Partnership Agreement and that the NSW Food Handling Standards are maintained in accordance with the Food Act.
• Assist with inspections of sewage management systems, as required under any audit program, to ensure that they are working in a manner such as there is no adverse impact on water quality, the environment or members of the community.
• Assist with the issue and monitoring of approvals under Section 68 of the Local Government Act, including but not limited to Approvals to Operate for Caravan Parks and On-Site Sewage Management Systems.
• Undertake annual public and environmental health activities as outlined in the Public Health Unit Operational Plan, including but not limited to skin penetration, cooling towers, public swimming pools and mortuaries and that these inspections are conducted as per the requirements of the Operational Plan.
• Undertake audit of all Underground Petroleum Storage Systems within the area (UPSS).
• Provide support and guidance to any Trainee Environmental Health Officer.
• Additional duties as required within the limits of the employee’s skill, competence and training.

 Selection Criteria

• Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Health or a relevant discipline.
• Ability to solve problems and work with minimum supervision in a team environment in relation to public health requirements and associated regulatory activities, enforcement and assessment processes.
• Current Class C Driver’s Licence.
• Experience and knowledge in the operation of on-site sewage management systems would be advantageous.
