About the Role
This is a hands-on leadership opportunity managing all parts of our 4000-sow Mating and Gestation breeder piggery located near Girgarre, Victoria.
As Site Leader – Mating & Gestation, you will oversee pig breeding operations, ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare, biosecurity, and staff safety. Working closely with the General Manager – DON Farms, you’ll drive production performance, maintain herd health, and lead a motivated farm team within DON’s vertically integrated pig production network.
You’ll play a key role in coordinating breeding programs, maintaining data accuracy, and ensuring that all pigs are cared for in line with APIQ standards and company animal welfare practices.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily operations of DON’s 4000-sow Mating & Gestation breeder site.
- Lead the team in pig husbandry, breeding, and animal care standards.
- Ensure compliance with APIQ, biosecurity and animal welfare regulations.
- Collaborate with veterinary consultants to optimise sow fertility and herd health.
- Maintain accurate breeding, mating, and performance records.
- Coach and develop employees to ensure skill growth and engagement.
- Manage feed, labour, and production costs in line with targets.
- Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Optional multisite responsibility for the right candidate.

About You You are an experienced
piggery or livestock production leader with:
- Strong background in pig breeding or pork production.
- Proven ability to lead teams in a sow breeding or gestation environment.
- Deep understanding of animal welfare, safety, and biosecurity standards.
- Organised approach to managing breeding records and production planning.
- Excellent communication, leadership and mentoring skills.
- Experience with APIQ accreditation or similar compliance frameworks.
- Hands-on leadership style and passion for livestock management.
